Here are the highlights from the July 11th board meeting.
Call to Order                                                                                               
President Tracie Sanchez called the meeting to order at 11:40AM with the following members present:  Dr. Susan Hubbell, David Runk, Catheryn Sarno, Paul Swartz, Paul Crow, Jed Metzger and Jill Ackerman.  Absent were: Anne Decker, Ken Dysert, Jeff Tracy, Dave Frost, Secretary Rita Brown, and Treasurer Kevin Bill.
 
     Secretary’s Report                                                                                       
Sanchez made a motion to approve the minutes of the June 20, 2017 board meeting, Sarno first and Crow seconded the motion.  Board approved.
 
District Governor Deb Cheney will visit the Lima Club on November 6th.  There will be a joint Rotary Board and Foundation Board meeting with the District Governor Deb Cheney prior to the regular club meeting.  Additional details will be shared closer to the date.
 
The revised Bylaws and Constitution will be voted on by the club in the next two weeks at a regular club meeting.
 
     President Elect Report                       Paul Swartz
     Showcase
Currently the recess lights and glass shelves are being finalized.  Half the funds needed for the showcase have been collected to-date.
 
      World Polio Day
October 23rd, 2017 will be World Polio Day.  The End Polio Now Flag will be flown in the Lima Public Square again for the week. Swartz spoke to the Mayor and Berger will attend the Club Meeting for the proclamation. The Club will serve Pizza for Polio that day at the meeting.  Dr. Hubbell is bringing a patient who had polio to speak. Education about polio and the “plus” aspect of polio plus will be shared.  Additionally, Swartz will put the piggy bank for polio out soon at meetings so Rotarians can put loose change in it throughout the year. 
 
     Board Member Report                       Catheryn Sarno
     Rally in the Square - August 18th, 2017
Jim Osmon will purchase additional cozies this year as they ran out last year.  Volunteers are in place for the evening.  Sarno will follow up about paying the sponsorship. 
 
     Allen County Fair Parade    
Peggy Ehora will be submitting the application for the Club.  The Parade will be held on Sunday, August 13th starting at 2PM.  The route will begin at Robb and Main Street and proceed to Market Street to Elizabeth Street ending at Wayne Street. Anne Decker and her husband will make bales of hay available so Rotarians can sit on the float.  Details will be shared when available.  
 
    Free Movies    
Sarno stated funds are available for three movies: July 14th will be Beauty and the Beast 2017 at Rotary Pavilion in Faurot Park; July 21st will be Pitch Perfect at Lima Stadium Park; July 28th will be Gravity at the Rotary Pavilion in Faurot Park. If there is a rain cancellation, Beauty and the Beast will be reshown in place of Gravity.
 
     Programs 2017 - 2018
The programs for the year are almost booked with the exception of April, May, and June of 2018.  Sarno stated there were multiple requests for Jim Bowsher to speak again.  Sarno stated Bob Ulm was the front runner as overall favorite program last year.
           
Communications/Social Media
Sarno stated that the Social committee will be showing some meetings on Facebook Live so anyone can click on and watch.  Chief Joe Kitchen has created a Lima Rotary Twitter account and is doing a great job tweeting for the club.  The Social Media Committee goal is to get more followers on Twitter and Facebook as a way of getting people engaged in Rotary.
 
     Blues, Brews, and Books Drive
United Way approached Tracie Sanchez about the Lima Rotary Club sponsoring a book drive. United Way cannot have an event that includes alcohol so they are requesting Rotary to be the sponsor of the “brews” portion.  Dr. Hubbell stated as many book drives occur, they need to be certain they are not in conflict with other organizations.  United Way plans to donate books to UMADAOP and other agencies. Sarno will continue to gather information to share with the board.    
 
Board Report                                   Paul Crow
Crow stated that the Rex Perry Golf Outing has 13 teams signed up and the Committee is looking for 5 to 8 more teams.  They are also looking for door prizes.  Reinke Ford is sponsoring a hole in one. 
 
     Ex Officio Past President's Report      David Runk
     Amphitheater
Runk stated Rich Rudolph held a meeting to share his idea about having an amphitheater in downtown Lima that will have a Rotary presence.  More details will follow as the plan is still in the beginning stages.
 
    Opiate/Homeless District Grant
Runk stated he would submit a grant request to the District for funds to assist with the opiate/homelessness issue in Lima.  The club would be responsible for a portion of the cost of the project if our request is awarded.  Runk will continue to research and provide more information to the board.            
 
    Little Free Libraries
Sanchez stated they will be placed in their home sites this week.  Jill Ackerman indicated that they have all been delivered to the Park District.  Jed Metzger will work with Frost to coordinate a ribbon cutting for the rollout.

4Way Speech Contest
Ackerman stated that the committee hopes to increase participation this year.  Last year there were 16 participants.  The board discussed requesting the Scholarship Committee match the funds to increase the prize amounts. Crow will work with the Scholarship Committee.

Metzger motioned to accept the applications and Swartz seconded. Board Approved.
 
     Additional Topics: 
Sarno was approached by William Trudeau from the Rotary Club of Ada regarding the Lima Club hosting a family for a Rotary Youth Exchange student from France.  Sarno is interested in being a host and will pursue it more.
