The Lima Rotary Club supports Rotary International and District 6600 in many ways. Here's what we're involved with this year.

Time is flowing by quickly and our days continue to be as busy as ever.  There’s always so much to do, so many people to see and so many projects to complete.  However, as Rotarians, we know that there is much more that needs our attention than what happens within our own little worlds.  That’s why we’re Rotarians in the first place, right?
Over the next several months, a number of things are going to be happening within our club and I’ll let others address many of them.  However, there are a few things which I would like to bring to your attention.

First, there is MESA – Medical Equipment and Supplies Abroad.  This organization is unique in a number of ways.  As most of you know, all Rotarians in our district (6600) are members of MESA as a result of our membership in our clubs. I have recently learned that MESA is unique within all of Rotary International.  There are few organizations (if any) that do the work on the scale that MESA does. That’s something for all of us to be proud of.  However, it’s also a responsibility that we all share.  MESA needs funds in order to not only operate the warehouse in Fostoria, but also to be able to ship the material to other parts of the world that it serves.  If each of us would contribute a small amount of $10.00 to $20.00, that would make a significant difference.  Additionally, if you are employed or associated with a business or organization that has unused equipment or supplies that are “clogging up” storage areas, please consider donating them to MESA.  Please see me if you have questions about this important part of our district’s work.
On a related topic, I have requested that Bob Ruehl schedule a time in the near future when he can share the experiences of his most recent excursion to Honduras on behalf of our club and MESA.  He’ll have lots of information to impart that we all need to know.

Finally, I want to thank all who have either purchased auction items or pledged funds to our Polio Plus effort this year.  We’ve made significant progress toward our goal, but have a ways to go.  Our goal is $8,000 and we’re just over $4,000 so far this year.  If you haven’t pledged yet, I encourage you do to so.  You can either email your pledge to me (david@csspub.com) or fill out a pledge card at a meeting.  As you are no doubt aware, significant strides have been made in the eradication of this dreaded disease.  We’re “this close” (see the distance between my fingers?) to making polio a thing of the past.  But there is still much to be done.  We’ll continue to auction off items at meetings for the rest of this quarter that will benefit the Polio Plus program and our Rottery funds are also going to Polio Plus.  If you have an item that you would like to make part of this auction, please see Paul Swartz.

It’s an exciting time to be a Lima Rotarian!  Thank you for your continued support of our important work!
Yours in Rotary,
David Runk
