The RTA provides vital transportation services to thousands of clients all over Allen County.

More than 330,000 people rode the RTA is 2014. Executive Director (and Rotarian) Sheila Schmitt told us that at just $1 per ride, the RTA provides a vital service to thousands of people who otherwise would not be able to get to work, school, doctor appointments, or shops. Right now the RTA uses 'flag stops' - when people see a bus coming, they hold out their hand and flag it down. Schmitt says the plan is to go to fixed stops in the near future, which will help the RTA with its on-time rate and fuel efficiency. The RTA is also hoping to switch to electronic fare boxes which will ensure that all riders are paying the correct fare. The RTA also provides a door-to-door service for those who are unable to get to the route, and it offers a demand service to transport people outside of the area for such things as medical appointments.
