The annual Arts Advocacy Luncheon was a wonderful celebration of the arts in our community.

Today's meeting was the 4th annual Arts Advocacy luncheon, which included a wonderful vocal presentations from a previous Rotary speaker (from ONU's gospel choir) - Adrian Thompson Bradshaw.

Also singing today was Kristen Lee - a teacher and winner of this year's artist award.

The Arts Advocate Awards consist of 3 parts: the artist, the advocate that helps the artist with his vision, and the philanthropist.

The advocate for 2015 is James Goare, an accomplished musician in his own right, recognized for his guitar teaching at Goodwin music and at Ohio Northern University.

The philanthropist is Harry Shutt - owner of the Kewpee and long time presenter of the Holiday spectacular.

Our keynote speaker was Linda Woggon - an attorney and current director of Citizens for the Arts - primarily involved in securing funds for the Ohio Arts Council. Her work this year earned the largest increase in arts funding in Ohio history - over 6 million dollars, a 28 percent increase!

Linda stressed the many cross-sector collaborations required to build a thriving arts community - which is directly related to urban development, attracting new people to the state, and improving the quality of life for all involved.
