Here are the highlights from the March 17 joint meeting of the Lima Rotary Board, the Lima Rotary Foundation Board and the $100,000 Committee.
President Esther Baldridge called the meeting of the Board of Directors, Rotary Foundation Board and The $100,000 Committee to order at 12:05 PM.

Anne Decker presented a report from the $100,000 Committee. Twenty-five applications were received and reviewed.  The Committee narrowed it down to four finalists:
·         St. Rita’s Medical Center,
·         Abilities Ball Field,
·         Rhodes State College, and
·         The Veterans Freedom Flag Monument.

The finalists each presented their projects to the $100,000 committee on 2/12/15. A survey containing the names and projects of each finalist was distributed at the Lima Rotary Club meeting on 2/23/15. The Centennial Committee then met on 2/26/15 to discuss and review the surveys and determine which finalist would receive the award. Results of the survey indicated a strong preference by club members to one of the projects.

After discussion by the Boards and Committee members to review and clarify issues, a motion was made and seconded on the agreed upon project.  Approval was unanimous.  The selected project winner will be unveiled Saturday evening March 21, 2015 during the Centennial Gala.

Foundation Treasurer, Jared Walsh presented financial data related to the Foundation Board, noting that the endowment fund contained a balance of 479,237.67. Funding for the 100,000.00 award will be subtracted from the endowment fund. Walsh also distributed the Statement of Receipts and Disbursements by Fund spreadsheet.  Walsh commented on the amount of funds available for Foundation Grants for the funding year.
Board Treasurer, Cheryl Lawson presented the Lima Rotary Club Financial Statements, February 28, 2015 packet to those present. Lawson reviewed the Statement of Revenue and Expense and there was discussion concerning Aging Summary information.  Board members will follow-up with those in arrears.  Schmidt moved to accept the financial reports from Walsh and Lawson, Warren seconded, approved.

The Centennial Committee met Monday March 16, 2015.  At this time 172 reservations have been made for the Gala.  The Logistics Team, led by Dave Collins, will be working on both Thursday March 19 and Friday March 20, 2015 on set-up and display.
The 419 will be featuring stories on the 100th anniversary of the Lima Rotary Club on Thursday March 19, 2015.  Bus stop posters will be placed in five locations during the month of April.  All print products have been finalized and ordered.

The District Conference is set for April 15 – 17th at Kalahari Resort in Sandusky, Ohio.  $100 will be paid toward the cost for non-Board members who wish to attend.

The nominating committee of Mike Schoenhofer, Jim Osmon and Carol Buettner presented the following slate of candidates for election to the Board of Directors for the term of July 1, 2015 – June 30, 2018.  Candidates include:  Tracie Sanchez, Paul Crow, Annette Swisher, Dean Wittwer, John Ficcorilli and Jill Ackerman.  All candidates are willing to be elected to officer status with the exception of Jill Ackerman.  The slate of candidates will be presented to the membership for vote with three being elected to each serve a three year term.

David Runk stated the Spring Blood Clinic will be held on Saturday May 2nd.

The Board approved new member applications for:
·         Jodie Sutherland-Robinson
·         Greg Ratliff
The Board accepted with regret the resignation of:
·         Amanda Miller.

There being no further business, Richard Warren made a motion to adjourn at 1:15 PM.  Bob Fett seconded the motion.  Board approved.  The next meeting will be Tuesday April 14, 2015.

Respectfully submitted,

Dave Collins, Secretary of the Lima Rotary Foundation
Rita Brown, Secretary of the Rotary Club

SpartanNash is a leader in food distribution.
Following an invocation by David Runk and the Sergeant at Arms report by Tony Cox, President Esther Baldridge read thank you notes from the Abilities Baseball League and Allen/Lima Leadership for the Rottery donations. She also thanked the Lima News for the outstanding Rotary Centennial insert and encouraged members to take one home.

Jeff Tracy pitch-hit a St. Patrick’s themed fellowship before auctioning a grill donated by Lowe’s to Bob Christian. Thank you Bob! Commissioner Jay Begg presented a proclamation honoring our centennial to the Club from the Allen County Commissioners, and Dale Llewellyn passed the bucket to support the new Interact club.

Cindy Wood introduced our speaker, Greg Ratliff from Spartan Nash, who added part 3 of our Food Services discussion. Spartan merged with Nash Finch in November 2014 to create Spartan Nash, headquartered in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Greg explained the company’s 3 lines of business: food distribution, retail stores and military distribution. Spartan Nash is the fifth largest food distributor in the country, representing more than $8 billion in sales annually. Lima is one of 12 distribution centers around the country. The Lima Distribution Center occupies 500,000 square feet in a multi-temp building and employs 260 people in warehousing and transportation.

The American Cancer Society is focused on four main goals.
Dave Cockerell led the club in prayer and our 4 way test - with Andy Farley providing fellowship and a few IRS facts and jokes...

Michael Ayers announced that anyone wanting a copy of the club group photo should contact him. The price for a framed copy is $93, with even the framing materials manufactured in Ohio.

Rita showed the membership the gift sculpture that local artist Joe Bonifas created - to be given to our speaker at the centennial dinner. There has been some interest in creating additional copies - anyone so inclined should contact Rita Brown.

Our speakers were several employees of the American Cancer Society (Jesse Purcell, Maybeth Torsell, and Karla Batt) - one of the largest organizations of its kind, with offices in over 900 locations in the US alone. Established in 1913 - the group is focused on 4 main goals: Prevent - Care - Cure - Advocate.

Much more than just aiding in cancer research - considerable emphasis is spent on promoting healthy lifestyle choices. Their efforts to encourage colorectal screenings for example, have saved thousands of lives. Local fundraising events are the Relay for Life and the newer Strides against Breast Cancer. The organization offers many programs for companies and individuals in healthy lifestyle choices, smoking cessation, and even free wigs for cancer patients that need them. All of their programs are free of charge.

For answers to cancer related questions and available resources - you can call 1-800-227-2345 at any time.

It's safari time!
District 6600 Rotarians,
Once a year, District 6600 offers a special opportunity to hear from Rotary International directly, strengthen your club, and a chance to collaborate on local and international projects. Just as important, we also give you time to connect with fellow club members, build connections with other Rotarians in the area and introduce your family to Rotary. This once a year experience is our District Conference and you are invited!

Today we kick off registration for this year's District Conference, The Safari Adventure, and we're headed to the first class Kalahari Conference Center in Sandusky, Ohio from April 17th-19th, 2015. Kalahari is famous for their indoor waterpark, but they also boast an incredible conference facility, unique lodging options and great food. The facility is going to be the perfect backdrop for the amazing speakers, sessions and entertainment that will all be part of the weekend. There are full conference packages, kids' conference prices and even options to join for a portion of the weekend.
