Be inspired by all the good Rotary is doing around the world.
Many of you know that I’ve been around Rotary most of my life and that it’s been part of my family for three generations.  Recently I was perusing some articles on the Rotary.org website that were also distributed through a regular e-newsletter right to my email.  As I watched the video presentation about the Rotary Foundation and the amazing impact that Rotary has around the world, my pride in being a Rotarian was once again rekindled.

On the chance that some of my fellow club members haven’t seen this article and the associated video, I hope you’ll take a few minutes out of your schedule to be inspired as well.  You can read (and watch) from this link: https://www.rotary.org/myrotary/en/news-media/district-leaders-set-celebrate-foundations-centennial
This is yet another reason to register for My Rotary on Rotary.org (if you haven’t already).

The Scoop - February 1, 2016
A local couple is using the power of music in their mission work.
They believe they are the only ones in the world who do what they do. Doug and Mary Lou Anthony from Shawnee Alliance Church travel the world in their mission work, but were finding that many churches established in third world countries were failing for lack of leadership. They discovered that the problem was in trying to communicate leadership skills to largely illiterate populations. Then they had the brilliant idea of teaching with music, stories and images, much in the way villagers pass down information through the generations, and they met with success. The program is called Freedom to Lead and Doug believes it is the single greatest mission development of his generation. Doug brought his guitar and led us on a fun sing along of King of the Road. Also today we inducted five new members: Lauren Swick, Carol Braden Clark, Theresa Schnipke, Rashawna Perry, and Demi Burden. Peggy Ehora was our spotlight member, and we auctioned off a cooler, raffle tickets and gift card to benefit Polio Plus. Thanks Andy Farley for the winning bid.

The Scoop - January 25, 2016
A coalition is working to improve housing in Allen County.
Dick Riggs brought his lovely wife Norma to the meeting today, celebrating 66 years of marriage. Congrats !!
Andy Farley provided fellowship, giving the club trivia for the upcoming Super Bowl. (Carolina is a 4 point favorite)
My take-home bit for the day - Super Bowl Sunday is the largest pizza delivery day of the year.
Member Spotlight - Kelli DeLong from Springview Manor. Kelli is married to Doug, and has been a life-long horse lover. She has been riding and showing horses since she was a little girl, and often helps other people select horses. She attended Ohio State, sang in woman's Glee - and is a rabid Lebron James fan.
Jeff Tracy auctioned off 5 yards of mulch for Polio Plus - congrats to David Runk.
The Rotary Christmas auction raised over $12,000 this year!
President Runk encouraged everyone to signup for MyRotary...
Our speaker today was Dan Faraglia from Coleman Behavioral Services. His topic was housing standards for clients in the Lima area, and his efforts to improve them. Often, a client with emotional or mental issues does not need to be institutionalized, but just needs help with housing and food. These clients are often threatened with eviction if they complain about problems with even the most basic housing essentials, like working plumbing and electrical systems. A new housing consortium has been formed in order to make sure that client housing is safe. Both landlords and tenants should be held accountable to standards, as public funds are being used. This is a much larger issue than one might imagine - over 9 million dollars per year are spent on housing services.

Bath Interact Update
A pie in the face is in the future for the Bath Interact Club.
Hi, my name is Alexis Ball and I am involved in Bath Interact. I want to update you on our future plans for the rest of this school year.
We are getting ready for our Sadie’s dance on February 27th. We are planning many activities and games. One game we will definitely be playing is corn hole, and we will be having a lip-synching karaoke contest. We also plan on smashing a pie into the face of one of our teachers. We are planning on giving some of the profit we make to Nationwide Children’s Research Hospital Department of Oncology Research. This is the hospital that supports Lauren Cunningham, a 4th grader from Bath who has been diagnosed with cancer. We are also working on getting a service project to help the elderly. We hope to have success with our plans so we can continue to help our school and community this year.
Sincerely,
Bath Interact

Board Search
We want you to join the Rotary Club of Lima Board of Directors!
It’s unbelievable to me, but my year as President of our club is already half over!  Wow, it’s gone by quickly and I have enjoyed every minute of it.  There is still much to be done and I’m looking forward to the next six months and to helping Dave Frost transition to the leadership of our club.  With that in mind, it’s time to consider nominations to our Rotary Club Board of Directors.  As usual, we will be electing three people to fill seats that are being vacated.  A nominating committee is being formed and we are seeking a minimum of six people to put on the ballot.   If you’re interested in being on the committee or, even better, interested in running for a seat on the board, please let me know as soon as possible.

Thanks very much,

Be a Gift to the World!

President David
