Changing of the Guard
Lima Rotary Club celebrates Dave Runk's year as president.
With an exchange of pins, David Runk and Dave Frost took part in the traditional transfer of the Lima Rotary Club presidency at the Monday Changing of the Guard.
In the symbolic gesture, Runk, the 2015-2016 president, presented Frost with a president’s pin. Frost, Lima Rotary Club’s 2016-2017 president, presented Runk with a past president’s pin.
Frost thanked Runk for his mentoring and friendship.
“Learning and working under you, preparing with you, it’s been fantastic,” Frost said. “As president of any organization, I’ve had an ideology that you want to leave it better than when you found it. I think you sincerely illustrate that ideology, David, congratulations.”
Runk was toasted by immediate Past President Esther Baldridge and roasted by past president Michael Schoenhofer. They and Frost noted Runk’s achieving the Rotary Presidential Citation and his family’s deep Rotary roots.

Runk Goodbye
David Runk wraps up his year as President of the Lima Rotary Club.
My Fellow Rotarians,

I wanted to take a moment to once again thank you for the opportunity to serve as the president of our Lima Rotary Club.  It was an amazing and enjoyable experience; one that I will always treasure and of which I am extremely proud.  We accomplished much together and made a difference in the world, both locally and globally.

I particularly want to thank Esther Baldridge, Dave Frost, Tracie Sanchez, Scott Shafer, Rita Brown and Kevin Bill for their hard work and valuable counsel.  I also want to thank Bob Ruehl for all of his hard work and for the occasional “kick in the backside”.   I was also blessed to work with a very fine Board of Directors and Foundation Board.  Finally, since I fear that I will forget someone, please know that each and every committee chair person with whom I had the honor to work on this project and that project, on various committees and other communications.  I consider you all to be very dear to me and I treasure you as friends and colleagues.

I’m quite confident that President Dave Frost, President-Elect Tracie Sanchez and the entire team will do a wonderful job over the course of the next Rotary year.  I’m looking forward to their leadership and assisting them in whatever way that I can.

God bless you all and God bless Rotary,

David

Dues Increase
The Board of Directors of the Lima Rotary Club has voted to increase dues.
Due to increasing costs for meals, Civic Center rental, Rotary International dues, and other expenses, the Lima Rotary Club will see its first increase in dues in more than 15 years.
  • 2016-2017 contracts and fees for both the Veterans Memorial Civic And Convention Center ($250/week) and Milano’s Café ($9.83/per person, per meal) were discussed and unanimously approved by the Board Of Directors.
  • 2016-2017 stipends of $400 per month for Club Secretary, Treasurer and Social Media were reviewed and approved unanimously by the Board Of Directors.
  • In order to maintain a balanced budget, the Board Of Directors unanimously approved the following increase in dues, effective July 1, 2016:
    • Individual Members: $25/Quarter
    • Corporate Members: $50/Quarter
    • In addition, visitors meals will also be increasing to $15/meeting, with the understanding that members bringing prospective members are eligible to receive credit for the visitor's lunch if and when the visitor joins the club.
    • Over the last 15 plus years, the club has experienced significant increases in dues from Rotary International and District 6600, along with costs pertaining to food service.  Unfortunately, the club can no longer absorb these costs without increasing dues.
  • Kevin Bill of Rea & Associates will continue to serve as the Lima Rotary Club Treasurer.  Amy Ricker will take over the responsibilities currently being performed by Joy Gentry at Rea & Associates.  Amy’s duties will include, but are not limited to: emailing/mailing quarterly statements & invoices, accounts receivable, accounts payable, collection and transfer of funds to the Lima Rotary Foundation, as well as fielding general billing questions from the membership.
  • A balanced budget for the Rotary Year 2016-2017 was presented and unanimously approved by the board of directors.

The Scoop - June 20, 2016
Erin Hardesty’s birth mother search offers life lessons.
It wasn’t until Erin Hardesty was pregnant with her first child that she began to give real through to finding her birth parents. The medical history she didn’t have nagged at her, and so she started looking.
She found that history, and so much more, that she is now co-authoring a novel based on her life story. She also offers that history as life lesson and motivational speech, and shared much of that with Lima Rotary Club Monday.
Hardesty was born in Virginia, but her adoptive parents brought her home to Lima three days after her birth. Decades later she would come to learn that her birth mother also lived in Lima, just miles from where she grew up, and had several connections to her over the course of her life.
Hardesty and Mike Blass are co-authoring a novel and also give a presentation based on her story, “Three Dimensions of Personal Power,” in which she asks questions such as “Are you living by design, or default?”
Her birth mother’s decision to have a baby and put her up for adoption, had, at last count, affected the lives of some 400 people, Hardesty said.
“What have I learned?” she asked the crowd. “There is incredible power in choices and all choices have consequences.”
You can learn more about the book and her story at www.NoLittleChoices.com.
Also at Rotary Monday:
We celebrated anniversaries, including Steve Kayatin’s 27 years of Lima Rotary membership.
President Elect Dave Frost announced a dues increase of $25, to cover increasing costs associated with Rotary International and district dues, and weekly meals.
President David Runk reminded the club about:
•    Changing of the Guard, which will happen June 27 at City Club
•    Lima Locos tickets are available for a $2 donation to the Lima Rotary Foundation
•    the Lima Rotary Foundation Golf Outing is rescheduled for July 20
•    the next Lima Rotary Club social meeting is June 28 at The Met.

Water
Water, water everywhere...

This year's World Water Summit <http://www.wasrag.org/wws8-seoul-korea>  on May 27 in Seoul highlighted the progress being made:
* Over the last 25 years, more than 2.5 billion people gained access to improved drinking water, and 2 billion who didn't have adequate sanitation now do.
* Child deaths from water-related diseases dropped from 1.5 million to just over 600,000.
* The UN Millennium Development Goals' target for clean drinking water was met five years ahead of schedule. But for the 1.8 billion people whose drinking water remains contaminated and the 2.4 billion without access to proper sanitation, progress is still too slow, said Vanessa Tobin, director of water and sanitation for Catholic
Relief Services and one of the event's main speakers.
