The Scoop - June 26, 2017
The Lima Rotary Club celebrates its traditional annual leadership change.
Lima Rotary Club celebrated its annual leadership transition Changing of the Guard, as the club toasted and roasted outgoing President Dave Frost and welcomed new President Tracie Sanchez.
Frost said the end of his year is a bittersweet time, and gave the club one last thought for the day, quoting Dr. Seuss: “Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened.”
Frost listed a few highlights from his year, and at the top of that list will be the fact that the Bath Interact Club, the UNOH Rotaract Club, and the Lima Rotary Club will all receive the Rotary International Presidential Citation this year.
The club raised significant funds this year, including $18,000 from the first Reverse Raffle and $25,000 from two blood clinics. The club also exceeded its Paul Harris and Polio Plus goals, and awarded $59,000 in scholarships to non-traditional students this year.
Frost echoed past presidents saying he learned more about Rotary leading it than any other way he could. Several times he honored and mentioned his grandfather, Frank Frost, himself a Rotarian with 58 years of membership and a past president.
“Time flies when you’re having fun,” Frost said. “That sums it up for me.”
Sanchez said she is excited to begin her year, and focus on the theme of “making a difference.”
The club presented its annual service awards:
  • Rex Perry Club Service Award: Esther Baldridge
  • Rudolph Community Service Award: Alberta Lee
  • Goodnight International Service Award: Becky Waggamon
  • Wemmer Vocational Service Award: Joe Kitchen
  • Hulsken Youth Service Award: Jill Ackerman

The club also presented a special award that can be awarded only directly from Rotary International, the Avenues of Service Citation, to Bob Ruehl, for his work on the most recent global grant and sanitation project. The award can be earned only once, and it the first time anyone from the Lima club has received the distinction.
The club recognized senior members of Rotary, with 40 or more years of membership: Fred Seelenbinder, David Steiner, Otto Bollenbacher, Bill Timmermeister, Dick Schroeder, Ralph Ellis, Jim Parmenter, Chuck Butts, Jim McCoy, Bob Komminsk, Dick Riggs, Chuck Leidy, and Frank Frost.
The club remembered Jonalee Schmidt and Mike Lamb, club members who died this past year.
