Women's Basketball Preview

We need volunteers for the Salvation Army Bell Ringing - 12/12 - Sign up and practice your Ho-Ho-Ho's !!

Today was the first ever Women's Basketball Preview, with 9 area schools participating. The women did not devastate the buffet nearly as much as the Men's football event - but they ate plenty. It was a nice change-of-pace to hear the women coaches interviewed, and Vince Koza was as effective as always. The main quote to take away from the meeting:

"You can coach only to a certain point - you have to have players in order to win. A donkey has never run in the Kentucky Derby!"
Participating schools:

Elida
Perry
Spencerville
Bath
LCC
Shawnee
Lima Senior
Delphos St. Johns
Delphos Jefferson
The OEAMC is helping local industries collaborate on new processes and technology.
This was Veterans Day, and Jeff Tracy shared a heartfelt story of his experience seeing Bob Hope in the mud and rain. His message of "Time Heals All Things" hit home for many in the audience...

David Runk read some thank you letters from the kids that received free dictionaries. There were no spelling errors noted...

Scott Shafer - presented some Foundation awards to Vicki Shurelds of The Mitzpah Center, formerly the Cheryl Allen Center. Also, Jon Rockhold accepted a check for the Barbers give Bikes - dedicated to our own Art Brinkman, who recently passed away.

We also inducted 2 new rotary members: Derek Stemen director of the West Central Ohio Red Cross, and Lisa Hummel from the State Bank.

Our topic of the day was a presentation by the Ohio Energy & Advanced Manufacturing Center - the OEAMC

This organization - now 10 years old, has participated in area projects funded at over $28 million. New methods of metal stamping using electromagnetic pulses is the standout result - utilizing less floorspace and energy than the old behemoth punch presses.

Husky has identified a need to test incoming raw materials quicker, as the crude stock is more varied and of lower quality than in previous years. This new lab would allow companies in the region to alter their processes for lower emissions and greater efficiency - even from batch to batch.
Don't miss the Lima Rotary Club's annual Christmas Auction on Monday, December 7 at 11:30am in the North Hall.
There are many fabulous items on which to bid at our Christmas Auction, hosted by Dave Grimm & Jeff Tracey. You can see many of them here:
Milano's will be serving a delicious meal including chicken piccata and warm apple cobbler. Prizes will be awarded for the most festive Christmas sweater and Christmas tie. And if you're not wearing a festive sweater or tie, expect to be fined $5. Proceeds benefit the Lima Rotary Foundation and the Salvation Army, so please plan to attend!

Please donate to the Rotary Foundation this season.
This is the time of year when nearly everyone thinks about charitable contributions.  There are a variety of reasons why this is so.  We, as Rotarians, generally think about this more often throughout the year.  Why?  Because we know that every year, hundreds of thousands of people — children, families, and entire communities — benefit from projects funded by The Rotary Foundation. When you give to Rotary, you enable local leaders to create sustainable solutions to their community's most pressing needs.

Frequently throughout the year, we are reminded of the EREY program – Every Rotarian Every Year.  Although Rotary gives back in countless ways, we focus our service efforts in six areas: promoting peace, fighting disease, providing clean water, saving mothers and children, supporting education, and growing local economies.  There is always so much to do, both locally and internationally.

With your support we can do even more. By making a gift of any size, you can be part of this positive change.  Now is an even better time to be part of this program.  Through the generosity of fellow Rotarians in District 6600, the Individual Giving Incentive Campaign has been rolled out.  This incentive plan ends on December 31.  Expand the culture of giving and gratitude in our district and help our club meet the One Rotary Challenge!

Take Action through Every Rotarian, Every Year
  • Any Rotarian who did not give in 2014-15 who gives at least $100 to the Foundation either by check to his or her Club Foundation Chair or commits to donating through Rotary Direct will be awarded 100 additional recognition points toward their Paul Harris Fellow The Rotary Direct option allows those who don’t wish to give all at once the opportunity to participate in the program by committing to a recurring gift at the amount of their choice equaling or exceeding $100 per year.
  • Any new Rotarian since July 1 who donates at least $100 to the Rotary Foundation to start a NEW Paul Harris Fellow for herself or himself, or any Rotarian that starts a new account for a non-Rotarian (e.g. spouse, child, grandchild, etc.) will be awarded 200 recognition points (limit two per Rotarian) via a cash/check donation or Rotary Direct.
Join Leaders with the Paul Harris Society
  • Any Rotarian who did not give in 2014-15 but who donates $1,000 or more by check to our Club Foundation or through Rotary Direct and commits to donating $1,000 per year for three years becomes a member of the Paul Harris Society and will be awarded 1,000 additional recognition points toward another Paul Harris Fellow.

The most important thing to remember, though, is that no gift is too small.  We all have much to be thankful for.  Let’s be sure to share what we have with others who are in need.
Please join me in supporting The Rotary Foundation.  It is an honor to be a member of such a generous organization.

Blessings to you all,

David Runk
Barbers Give Bikes is Saturday!
Barbers gives Bikes is this Saturday.  Lima Rotarians have volunteered to help move bikes and get set up with helmets so we can help make the dream of owning a bike a reality for hundreds of children.  This is another great event that the Lima Rotary Club is participating in on a yearly basis in honor of Art Brinkman, who started Barbers Give Bikes along with Jim Sherrick. The Lima Rotary Club is proud to provide a helmet for every child who receives a bike.
Join us for our next social evening on December 9th.
