Polio Plus

We're making great progress in our fundraiser for Polio Plus.

Ladies and gentlemen,

This quarter our club has been doing a great job at doing our part to help eradicate Polio throughout the world. To date, members of our club have purchased $1,975.00 in auction items and pledged $1,700.00 for a total of $3,675.00. It is my understanding that some members have made pledges or contributions directly as well, so I’m proud of the progress we’ve made so far.

We will be auctioning off items for the rest of March. Those items will include:

a $500.00 Gift Certificate from Simplified Flooring
a $200.00 Gift Certificate for roof cleaning from I Do Windows
two keyless entry door locks installed
a wine, meat and cupcake certificate

…and the funds from the Rottary drawings for this entire quarter will also go towards Polio Plus

Thanks for everyone’s generosity… and keep it up!

At last Monday's meeting, our own Tracie Sanchez as well as her sister, Cat, walked those present through the process of signing up for "My Rotary" and I am very grateful for their efforts. We're now almost halfway to our goal of signing up people for this important communication tool.

If for for some reason you were unable to attend the club meeting on March 1 (we had a great time, by the way), I'm attaching to this email the instructions for how to sign up. It's very easy and only takes a few minutes. You can sign up from any computer, tablet computer or even your smart phone.

If you have any trouble navigating the instructions, please feel free to contact Catherine Sarno at (614) 633-7305 and she'll gladly assist you in the process.

We had a great time at the first Mystery Monday!

The Lima Rotary Club's first Mystery Monday was a lot of fun. The social committee led us in six games of bingo with Jeff Fitzgerald as the caller. Ralph Ellis had everyone laughing as he repeatedly called Bingo! even though he didn't have the winning numbers. Prizes ranged from symphony tickets with a night at the Wingate to a giant lollipop. Winners were Steve Barker, Jared Lehman, Susan Hubble, Rita Brown, Andy Farley and Kurt Neeper.

Tracie led the meeting by having everyone get out their phones/tablets and sign up for My Rotary. If you haven't already signed up, please do so. If you need assistance, contact President David.

The Lima Rotary Foundation also presented a check for $2,981 to the Girl Scouts of Western Ohio and Allen Lima Youth Leadership.

Our first Mystery Monday was a fast-paced, busy and fun meeting. If you missed it, you won't want to miss the next one. Thanks social committee for doing a great job!

ODOT is making good progress on the reconstruction of I-75.

Linda Hamilton from West Ohio Food Bank was Sgt-At-Arms today.

Mike Powell provided fellowship - showing us "funny signs" that actually exist somewhere...

Our member spotlight was Paul Swartz, CEO of Swartz Contracting, grew up in a farming environment. He was born in Virginia - graduated from Elida, and worked as an accountant for about a year before he decided it was not a career he enjoyed. In May, 1987 - he started Swartz Contracting, and spec built houses. Eventually he began to specialize in insurance restoration work in a 10 county area.

Polio Plus update - Over $11,412 was raised last year, and we are on schedule to beat last year's donation level...

The Rotary Foundation presented the Special Olympics - Randy Crouse - with $1000. Randy gave us a brief history of his involvement with the Special Olympics and the good works they do in this area...

Our speaker today was Kirk Slusher, ODOT District Director for most of northwest Ohio. He supervises over 300 employees, 800 bridges, and over 3200 lane miles of road.

A few takeaways from his update...

If you are traveling on I-75 to Toledo this summer - he is truly sorry. Expect delays all along the route...

Most of I-75 around Lima is complete - but will be finishing up from the Auglaize County Line to 4th street until around October.

St. Route 309 to Kenton will be under major construction all summer - take another route...

The intersection of 117 and 501 will be redone - adding Left turn lanes...
