Human trafficking is a problem in Allen County.
Our invocation was by Michael Ayers, who shared a lovely poem about the outdoors and our connection with nature...

We also sang today - 16 tons made famous by Tennessee Earnie Ford

Please note: the club is marching in the Labor Day Parade. If you would like to join in - contact David Runk.

We are in need of more members on the Sgt. at Arms committee. Please consider joining their ranks if you can.

Do you have children or grandchildren interested in other countries? We have noticed that we haven't been participating in the international exchange program recently - and our club has always benefitted from the experience.

Our Rotary foundation presented cash grants to The LSO, the DARE program, and the VMCC - when you see those organizations out in the community, tell them their doing a great job !

Our speaker today was Sgt. David Gillespie - talking about human trafficking. Prostitution has often been called a victimless crime - but when underage boys and girls are involved - the crime is pretty heinous. This area is known as a "source location" - with many girls recruited here to work all over the country. Often, these victims are taken to areas for large events, like the Super Bowl - which violates federal law.

Toledo seems to be a major source of handlers in the industry - called "pimps" by some. For some reason, even when arrested in other cities - they are often from Toledo.  Lima has seen an increase in human trafficking cases - due in part to the local rise in heroin use. If you see a young boy or girl being treated inappropriately - don't ignore that these may be victims - not just prostitutes...

What can we say about the perennial favorite Rotary program? Vince Koza once again MC'd a preview of the area football teams. More teams this year - more players (which means the carb portion of the Rotary buffet was pretty picked over) - and hopes for an injury-free season. 4 teams from this area made it into the post season last year, and we're looking forward to excitement each FRI and SAT this fall !!

The Lima Rotary Club holds its fall Blood Clinic on November 7 from 6:30-9:00am at Senior Citizens Services.

Lima Rotary conducts a Blood Clinic twice a year as a fund raiser.  Avoid a health surprise and attend on November 7th at Senior Citizens Services, 3400 West Elm Street.

What many members miss is that the clinic is an opportunity obtain a very low cost blood profile of themselves for only $35.00.  Go to any lab or hospital and you would spend big bucks to obtain this information.  Lima Memorial sends the results directly to your doctor and to you in about two weeks.

Many of us are health conscious and would pay much more money for these same results.  Over a period of time if you repeat in utilizing these opportunities your profile will tell your physician whether you are maintaining your health properly.

The Lima Rotary Club is considering hosting an exchange student next year.
Over the last several months, our club had the opportunity to sponsor an exchange student from France for this coming year, but the timing wasn't right for a variety of reasons and the Rotary Board decided to forego that experience. Since that time, our club (as well as the other clubs in our district) have been given that opportunity once again.  It's time for us to apply for a student for the 2016-17 school year and applications need to be completed over the next few months.

I would like you to consider hosting an exchange student in your home.  Or perhaps you know another family who would be interested in hosting a student.
If this is something you would be interested in exploring, please see me and I'll insure that you receive more information about the program.

Thanks for your consideration.
