Local churches are working together to help homeless families.
Our Sgt. at Arms was Art Brinkman, with fellowship provided by Butch Kirk. Butch reminded us that his expertise is in industrial tank construction and maintenance, and in that profession - he's the best there is.
His comedy was "not so much" - but I did laugh more than once, which says a lot for a Monday...

Esther made a special announcement that all Bob Evans Lima locations are helping us raise money for World Polio Day - October 23rd (THR) from 6 to 9pm. A portion of your dinner will be donated to the Polio Plus program. So treat your significant other to an evening down on the farm, and raise some money, OK?

Today's program was all things Family Promise, from our own members Charles Wolfe and Jill Ackerman. Family Promise differs from many organizations in that in addition to providing funds for homeless families - they actually house them using a series of member churches, help them find permanent employment and housing - thereby returning the family to health. Many families end up volunteering after they get on their feet - a testament to the program's success. With almost 50% of Lima children living below the poverty line - this group is constantly in demand, and is certainly worthy of our support. If any member wants to donate time, cash, or other much-needed help in a variety of other areas - please contact Chuck Wolfe for more information.

Do you have an emergency plan for your business?
Fellowship was by Scott Shafer, followed by Cindy Wood and a brief update on our $100,000 Rotary project status.

Harold Bischoff talked about Rotary International - with an interesting presentation that traced our specific donations here in Lima to the success stories in several Latin American countries. It's amazing to hear just how far our dollars travel, and how effective they are in helping people with basic needs.

Our speaker was Bath Fire Chief Joe Kitchen - and an interesting program illustrating how fire departments and local industry form partnerships that save industry employees: and the firefighters that walk TOTALLY the other way most of us do when dealing with a building on fire...

Industrial fires are quite different from residential ones - and knowing what potential hazards are on site - down to their location in the warehouse - can make the difference between a lengthy cleanup and a total loss.

The key is a knowledge exchange before the emergency - so be sure and make your local fire department a partner in your emergency action plan.

Make sure to attend the Rotary Blood Clinic on November 1.
The 2014 Rotary Fall Blood Clinic is to be held on Saturday, November 1, 2014 at the Senior Citizens Center. We will start at 6:30 a.m.
The Sertoma Club will be doing hearing screenings as they have done in the past. There will be two half-page advertisements in the Lima News on the Sundays before the event. The postcards will be mailed out approximately two weeks prior to the event as well.
The event will require approximately eight volunteers from Rotary to help register participants and direct traffic that morning.  Volunteers should plan to arrive around 6:15 a.m.  Please contact Mike Swick at 419-998-4433 or reply to this email regarding your availability.
Thank you in advance for your help with this event.

Dictionary distribution is this week.
The Lima Rotary Club is distributing dictionaries to students this week.  The Lima Rotary Dictionary project provides a dictionary to all third-grade students in the Lima area which aligns with the Rotary International drive to support "literacy development."  This project is seen as a way to encourage young students with their own dictionary that the Lima Rotary hopes that not only will the child benefit from the book but, by taking it home , the whole family will use it - particularly if they have few books at home.  To see the big smiles and sincere thank-yous from the students when giving them their books tells me the Lima Rotary is helping the community.
