Bluffton University has seen a 20% increase in its MBA program recently.
The meeting opened with the traditional Prayer, Pledge and four way test - followed by President Esther awarding Tracie Sanchez, Jim Mason and Joe Patton their official blue badges. David Hartman was also recognized for his 50th wedding anniversary. We were also reminded that the District Governor will be coming in 2 weeks and the club is in need of items to be donated for a gift basket for the Governor. Harry Hooyenga talked about the Paul Harris society and the Polio Plus program.Harry also gave well deserved  congratulations to President Ester for joining the Paul Harris Society.

Our speaker was Dr. George Lehman. Dr Lehman is the director of Graduate Management Programs Chair, Division of Business Studies. He provided us with information on the MBA program at Bluffton University. According to Dr. Lehman there are many ways to earn an MBA.You can attend day classes, evening classes or online. Bluffton University offers evening classes only for this degree. Interesting that their average age of students for evening classes is 35-40 and they have many students well into their fifties - so I guess it's not too late if you're still considering a career change.

Jeff Tracy finally showed up to do fellowship and closed the meeting with Jeff's great brand of humor.

Here are the highlights from the September 8th board meeting.
The Board reviewed the Monthly Attendance Report for fiscal year-to-date.  Attendance remains up from the previous year between 5 – 10%. Last month’s attendance averaged at 45.43%.
Baldridge is currently drafting a proposed Political Activity policy.  A draft was shared with the Board.  The intent is to remain neutral and unbiased but also to educate the club.  The Board will review the policy again next month before finalizing it.
Baldridge provided an update on the Centennial events including a resignation from Peggy Ehora as Chair for the Centennial Committee.  Baldridge stated her work is very much appreciated.  At Ehora’ suggestion, Baldridge contacted Rita Brown to assume the role as Chairman.  Brown suggested Jon Rockhold or asked to have Jon Rockhold as a co-chair.  Also Carl Berger has agreed to be the Event Chair for the Centennial.   Brown, Rockhold and Greta Murray will serve as co-chairs.   Brown reported the History Committee is moving forward in gathering information and in addition, is also looking for photos from past events.  Decker reported the $100 Grand Committee has met and agreed that the goal is to leave a legacy and to donate the money for a primary purpose.  City and County officials have been contacted for their input.  Once finalized, the information will be shared with the club members for approval.
Runk reported that the Membership Chair, John Ficcorilli is working with the Young Professionals to co-brand an event encouraging the Young Professionals to consider joining Rotary.

Chuck Wolfe from Family Promise of Lima-Allen County will speak at an October Rotary meeting.  He will be meeting with Jill Ackerman, Lima City Schools, Runk and Baldridge to determine the best way for Rotary to support Family Promise of Lima-Allen County..

Frost provided an update on the Faurot Park Rotary Pavilion.  He has met with Rick Stolly from the City.  Decker is working with the Toledo Painters Union and Gary McPheron’s apprentice group along with Mike Knisely for volunteer labor.  Frost will have firm numbers by the next Board Meeting.  The Rotary Logo or Four Way Test could be included on the back wall.  A street sign designating the location of the Rotary Pavilion will also be put up.  The goal is to have the work done by May 2015.
An International fundraiser is scheduled for October.  No details are available yet.  MESA is looking at a warehouse in Fostoria that will need rehabbing.    There will be a MESA Board meeting later this month.  MESA leadership may ask District  Clubs to make 3 year financial commitment to the warehouse rehabbing.

By popular demand, the Inside Scoop is expanding to twice a month!
The Inside Scoop was held Thursday morning at the Wingate Hotel, beginning at 7:30.  President Baldridge convened the meeting and President-Elect Runk provided the invocation and led those present in the 4 Way Test.  Conversation during the meeting included details of the Rotary Board meeting last Tuesday.  Another topic of interest was the effort to begin an Interact program at Bath High School.  While it is still early in the discussion, there was excitement about the possibility of expanding our club's outreach in this way.

It was also announced that "The Inside Scoop" is going to a bi-monthly schedule.  The next meeting will be held on September 25th at the Wingate, beginning at 7:30 am.  Coffee will be provided for anyone who wants to imbibe.  Breakfast is available for $5.00 paid at the front desk.  You can park in the Wingate lot.

The casual atmosphere of these events is very conducive to discussion about ways we can improve our club and become more active within our community.  All members are encouraged to attend as they are able; please remember that this is an excellent and easy way to make up a meeting.

From this point, the Inside Scoop will be held not only on the first Thursday following the Rotary Board meeting but also then again on the Thursday which follows two weeks later.

Check out what this Rotary Club did for International Literacy Day.
Hundreds of children ages 7-11 are writing their own stories as part of a project run by the Rotary E-Club of the Caribbean. The best stories are published each year in "The Butterfly Story Book." It's just one example of how Rotary members worldwide advance early childhood reading. Learn more about this project and others for International Literacy Day, 8 September.
