The Board of Directors of the Lima Rotary Club has voted to increase dues.
Due to increasing costs for meals, Civic Center rental, Rotary International dues, and other expenses, the Lima Rotary Club will see its first increase in dues in more than 15 years.
2016-2017 contracts and fees for both the Veterans Memorial Civic And Convention Center ($250/week) and Milano’s Café ($9.83/per person, per meal) were discussed and unanimously approved by the Board Of Directors.
2016-2017 stipends of $400 per month for Club Secretary, Treasurer and Social Media were reviewed and approved unanimously by the Board Of Directors.
In order to maintain a balanced budget, the Board Of Directors unanimously approved the following increase in dues, effective July 1, 2016:
Individual Members: $25/Quarter
Corporate Members: $50/Quarter
In addition, visitors meals will also be increasing to $15/meeting, with the understanding that members bringing prospective members are eligible to receive credit for the visitor's lunch if and when the visitor joins the club.
Over the last 15 plus years, the club has experienced significant increases in dues from Rotary International and District 6600, along with costs pertaining to food service. Unfortunately, the club can no longer absorb these costs without increasing dues.
Kevin Bill of Rea & Associates will continue to serve as the Lima Rotary Club Treasurer. Amy Ricker will take over the responsibilities currently being performed by Joy Gentry at Rea & Associates. Amy’s duties will include, but are not limited to: emailing/mailing quarterly statements & invoices, accounts receivable, accounts payable, collection and transfer of funds to the Lima Rotary Foundation, as well as fielding general billing questions from the membership.
A balanced budget for the Rotary Year 2016-2017 was presented and unanimously approved by the board of directors.

Call to Order
President David Runk called the meeting to order with the following present: Esther Baldridge, Harold Bischoff, Paul Crow, Anne Decker, Peggy Ehora, David Frost, and Jeff Tracy. Also present were Treasurer Kevin Bill and Secretary Rita Brown. Club Member Lauren Swick attended as a guest.
Attendance Report
Rita Brown reported 30 members resigned this past fiscal year with 20 new members joining. May attendance indicated 177 members with 48.87% attendance.
Club Service Awards
The Board reviewed the nominees for the Service Awards for 2015 – 2016 in the five areas of service – Club, Community, International, Vocational and Youth. Winners will be acknowledged at the Changing of the Guard Party for their exemplary leadership and dedication to the Club.
Changing of the Guard
The Changing of the Guard Party will be Monday June 27th from 11:30 AM – 1 PM at City Club. Mary Elmquist-Lane and Rita Brown are planning the party. In addition to the regular activities, newly qualified Paul Harris level members will be acknowledged this year. Tim Stanford will be the emcee.
President’s Report
David Runk provided an update on the Rotaract Club being formed at the University of Northwestern Ohio. Runk, Frost and Lima Rotarian Lisa Hummel met with advisors at UNOH. Currently 18 students have expressed interest in being charter members. They will attend the Rotary meeting on July 18 when District Governor Do Nguyen visits the Lima Club. Ten of the eighteen who have expressed interest are international students. The goal is to charter the club by September.

Finance
Treasurer Kevin Bill provided the following report:
An email was sent to the Collections Committee of members who currently are 120 days in arrears.
Bill indicated the club currently has $27,584 in a cash position vs. $86,267 in July 2015. It trended down as the club made settlement with the Lima Rotary Foundation for many past fund raising events. The financial statements indicate the club is in good financial shape. In July, the club will have a $10,000 payment to District 6600 and Rotary International. Club Members will be invoiced in July. Paul Crow made a motion to approve the Treasurer’s report as submitted. Jeff Tracey seconded the motion. Board approved.
Vice President Report (Service Projects)
Peg Ehora presented the following report for VP Tracie Sanchez
a. Social Sub-Committee
i. Monthly meeting at the Met. Sponsorships are booked through July 2017. The event continues to grow.
ii. Bowling at Westgate - the event will be held Sunday August 6th. Details will follow.
iii. Night at the Locos – The Lima Rotary club has agreed to sponsor it for 3 years – Saturday June 18th will be Rotary Night starting at 7:30 PM. Tickets are $2 each and are available from David Runk, Dave Frost and Tracie Sanchez. The Rotaract kids from UNOH are also gathering a group.
b. Local Projects:
i. Spring Blood Clinic Results – Lima Memorial Hospital’s bill is $29,004. The charge for the police officer was $100. Gross Receipts were $40,426.00 leaving a profit for the Foundation of $11 322.00. Lima Memorial Hospital has agreed to do one clinic a year – the Spring Clinic. We will need to find 10 – 14 phlebotomists to work the Fall Clinic.
ii. Rex Perry Memorial Golf Outing - Matt Otto reports most of last year’s sponsors are again sponsoring and a few new sponsors have been added. Currently 23 teams are signed and Matt hopes to sign 2 – 4 more on the day of the event.
iii. Rally in the Square – will be held on July 15th. Jim Osmon reports all volunteers are in place. Please come out to support Lima/Art Space.
iv. Abilities Field – progress is being made as all parties have met at UNOH to work on the timeline. Work is being done to start ordering bricks and the banners. Also work is underway on a plan after 5 years for Companies to renew their banners for a fee.
International Service Update
Harold Bischoff reported on the following:
a. MESA Bike Ride - Bischoff indicated a hand painted picture honoring Bill Pepple would be presented. John Ficorilli is picking it up. Bischoff indicated the Lima Club did themselves proud again this year.
b. Hondurans Water Project Bob Ruehl has international partners in place and will submit the grant soon.

The MESA bike riders brought their message to Lima Monday.
Bicyclists from across District 6600 stopped in Lima Monday for food, fellowship and fundraising.
The MESA Bicycle Tour was on Day 3 as the group visited Lima to receive more than $6,000 in support from the Lima Rotary Club. MESA Stands for Medical Equipment & Supplies Abroad, the district’s effort to help others by delivering medical supplies, computers, emergency vehicles, and much more to people around the world.
For six days, bicyclists ride 50 miles or more each day, with a goal of raising $50,000 from pledges and club support, said Bill Pepple, of the Bryan Rotary Club and chair of the Rotary Tour for MESA. Pepple thanked the Lima club for its longtime support of the ride and noted several of the riders and support staff came from Lima, including Becky Waggamon and Catheryn Sarno.
The riders, dressed in their bike shorts and MESA Rotary jerseys and socks or flip flops, stood out at lunch.
“We’re bringing MESA to you in a vivid way,” rider Kurt Anderson said. “But the real story happens overseas.”
Anderson told a story of MESA providing nine dialysis machines to Nigeria. The entire country had only three machines previously, but MESA was able to step in, finding a use for equipment that would have been scrapped, funding the shipping cost, and improving the health of Nigerians.
“We’re saving lives as we do this,” Anderson said.
The tour was presented with two checks totaling more than $6,000 from the Lima Rotary Club.

Samantha Gossard gave us a fascinating look at the life of an opera singer.
David Frost provided fellowship, which was a series of "happy dollars" from club members. Lots of graduations, anniversaries, baby announcements, and proud grandpas. David Frost vowed to donate $3 to MESA for every dollar raised, so there were more happy dollars than usual...
Marcie Boone was our member Spotlight - she;s from Texas, and currently is site director for INEOS. She started out as a teacher, but ended up in mechanical engineering. She worked for Union Carbide for 20 years, and currently serves on the local Chamber board.
Paul Swartz received a special plaque for his work on the Polio Plus campaign - great job Paul.

Our speaker today was Samantha Gossard - originally from Lima and now an accomplished opera singer. Although she did not sing (to much disappointment) she gave us a very interesting view into the life of an opera performer. From audition to rehearsal to performance - months and months of work go into just a few performance dates. She also worked with local students - providing a workshop on how to prepare for a life in the arts...
The Rex Perry Memorial Golf Outing has been rescheduled to July 20.
Due to the rain yesterday, the Lima Rotary Rex Perry Memorial Golf Outing has been rescheduled for July 20th. it will once again be held at Hidden Creek northeast of Lima. If you wanted to participate before but were unable, you now have the opportunity to schedule a day of golf and fellowship. This year the club will celebrate our Changing of the Guard Party on Monday June 27th, the last Monday of June. Since 2009 - 2010, the Club has acknowledged individual club members each year at the Changing of the Guard for outstanding Club, Community, International and Vocational Service and in 2014, those awards were renamed for past presidents who represented those avenues of service in our daily lives.
Those awards currently include:
the Rex Perry Club Service Award,
the Rudolph Community Award,
the Goodnight International Service Award and,
the Wemmer Vocational Service Award.
This year, it is appropriate that the club add a Youth Service category and has decided to name the award the Hulsken Youth Services Award in honor of former Lima Rotarian Peter Hulsken. Hulsken was named an honorary charter member and served as Santa for the Children’s Christmas Party for 25 years. Hulsken also set up a trust in his estate that the Rotary Foundation currently manages – The Hulsken Fund. It pays a major portion of the Children’s Christmas Party each December.
These past few years, club members have nominated fellow club members for the awards and the Board of Directors has selected the winner in each category. Please send your nominations to Club Secretary Rita Brown (ritabrown@woh.rr.com) by Wednesday June 10, 2016. The Board will vote on your nominations and select a winner in each category at the Board Meeting on Tuesday June 14, 2016.
