The Greater Lima Region Park and Amphitheater is nearly complete.
The Greater Lima Region Park and Amphitheater is almost finished! At Monday's update, Tracie Sanchez told us that the grass is coming in well and the finishing touches are being put on the amphitheater. It will be ready for the grand opening weekend August 2-6. Bart Mills from the Council for the Arts of Greater Lima, Jesse Cunningham from Allen Lima Leadership and Carmen Cecala-Wells from the Civic Center outlined grand opening events including concerts, a hog roast, arts festival and children's festival.
We also welcomed Tara Reynolds-Bales, the new Executive Director of the Lima-Allen County Regional Planning Commission. She explained that RPC has responsibility for a number of vital roles in our community, including:
•Developing an integrated transportation plan for the region •Guiding informed decision-making across a broad cross-section of community representatives; •Reviewing and approving the allocation of millions of dollars for improvements of roadways and bridges; •Ensuring that residents have the opportunity to utilize alternative modes of transportation; and •Reviewing and prioritizing expenditures for walkways, bicycle trails, transit, and paratransit options. Regional Planning also compiles and archives a wide variety of data about the county, including population and housing reports; traffic and crash analysis; zoning, land use and soil information; and much more.
The Lima Rotary Club's June social will be Sunday, June 25 at the Field of Dreams. The Lima Rotary Club donated $100,000 to build this completely accessible ballfield as a celebration of our 100th anniversary in 2015. The games take place at 3:00, 4:00, 5:00 and 6:00. We will be passing out water to the players, their families and fans, and cheering on the kids. There is no admission charge. The Field of Dreams is located on the UNOH campus near the Eastown Road entrance. Don't miss this special day!

The annual Rotary Tour for MESA is coming up in June.
Whether you are a new Rotarian, or a very seasoned one, I am writing to let you know about MESA's upcoming fundraiser, the Rotary Tour for MESA. This year, the bike tour will run from Saturday, June 24 through Wednesday, June 28. Riders are also encouraged to meet the evening of Friday, June 23 at Kalahari in Sandusky to participate in the installation ceremonies for new District leadership, including incoming District Governor, Jim Duke.
The Tour will then launch from Sandusky on Saturday morning, June 24, with the following itinerary: Saturday, June 24: Sandusky-Marblehead-Port Clinton-Oak Harbor-Fremont Sunday, June 25 (noon launch): Fremont-Clyde-Bellevue-Milan-Norwalk Monday, June 26: Norwalk-Ashland-Oberlin Tuesday, June 27: Oberlin-Elyria-Avon/North Coast-Lorain Wednesday, June 28: Lorain-Amherst-Vermilion-Huron-Sandusky
We trust you can join us, at least for 1 or 2 days, if not for the whole tour.

United to End Cervical Cancer in Egypt, an initiative to reduce the number of cases while raising awareness and improving women’s access to preventive care, is the recipient of Rotary’s third annual Programs of Scale award. Rotary International President Jennifer Jones announced the grant at the annual convention in Melbourne, Australia. The four-year program in and around Cairo will vaccinate more than 30,000 girls ages 9-15, provide cancer screenings for 10,000 women, and launch a public awareness campaign to reach 4 million people. Be sure to go back to your favorite courses in the Learning Center to check for any new additions.
