The Lima Rotary Club has raised $1,193,000 toward the $2.8 million cost of building the Greater Lima Region Park and Amphitheater, and has secured $1.25 million from the state of Ohio's capital budget. Tracie Sanchez told us that the project budget has increased from its original $2.5 million due to input from the arts community which wanted a larger, enhanced stage with a green room, lights, sound, video screens and storage. The arts community will be helping us raise the additional funding. The architectural drawings are being finalized right now and we hope to transfer the property to the city of Lima in May. Lima will own and maintain the park and the Civic Center will book the facility. We hope to select a contractor in mid-August and begin construction shortly afterwards. One of the features of the park will be a beautiful entry called Madelon's Way, named for the mother of Dr. James O'Neill, who was very active in Lima's arts community. Other naming opportunities remain available, including the stage, the vendor plaza, the landscaping, the fencing and the park. Contact Tracie or Rich if you would like to secure naming rights for any of these areas or make a donation.
