Here are the highlights from the December 8 board meeting.
 
  • President’s Report  by David Runk
Interact and Rotaract Clubs
David indicated work is continuing on starting additional Interact Clubs in the Schools.  Work is also continuing on the development of a Rotaract Club at the college level.
Four Way Test Contest 
The Club will again participate in the Four Way Speech Contest with Dean Wittwer managing the process.  The contest will takes place in March. 
Display Check
David is looking into having a large erasable check that will be interchangeable for the Club and The Rotary Foundation to use when making donations to the community.  The check will be used for media purposes.  Mike Powell from Sign Pro will do a proposal. 
Wait Staff Year End Bonus   
The board affirmed that the Lima Rotary Club should give bonuses to June, Helga and Michelle.  Kevin will generate the checks for distribution at Monday’s meeting on December 14, 2015.
 
  • President-Elect Report    by David Frost 
Membership Sub-Committee   
David Runk, Dave Frost and Membership Chairman John Ficcorilli met to discuss ways to get the members engaged.  Ideas discussed include
  1. Pledge Class - Treat new members as Pledge Class.  Ficcorilli suggested making presentations with the full group.
  2. Follow up to Orientation three months after orientation – have a follow up lunch with them to continue the process.  John will take that on and regroup after the 1st of the year.
  3. John and members of the committee will also reach out by phone to members who have not attended for 4 – 5 weeks with a goal of bringing them back to the club.
 
Sergeant at Arms Committee. Jim Mason and Carol Buettner are chairing the Sergeant at Arms Committee. The Club has seven new members since July 1st.   They will ask the new members to get involved at the sign-in desk. 
Finance Sub-Committee
Dave shared a proposed update to the Constitution of the Rotary Club of Lima, OH Article 12 Duration of Membership  Section 3 Termination – Non-payment of Dues  Paragraph (a) Process   Any member failing to pay dues within ninety (90) days after the due date shall be notified in writing by the President at the member’s last known address.  If the dues are not paid, and or a written response outlining a payment schedule is not received, on or before ten (10) days of the date of notification, membership may terminate, subject to the discretion of the board.  Frost also presented the letter proposed to be sent to the member who is in arrears.  Harold Bischoff made a motion to approve the amendment and letter.  Anne Decker seconded the motion.  Runk will address the update from the Podium with the membership.  Runk and Frost will write an article for the eSpoke.  Board approved.
 
  • Vice President Report (Service Projects) by Tracie Sanchez
Blood Clinic – 487 people attended the fall clinic which was the largest fall clinic to–date.  A check for $10,010 is being prepared by Memorial Hospital and will be presented to the Club.  Ten Rotarians helped with the event.
Barbers give bikes.  Sixty-eight bikes and helmets were given away on Saturday December 5th.  Rotarians Dave Frost, Andy Wannemacher, Kurt Neeper, Joe Watson and Bob Ruehl helped with the event.
Christmas Auction – the Auction was held Monday December 7th.  The Liberty Arts Magnet Elementary Choir performed Christmas music.  Dave Grimm and Jeff Tracey served as auctioneers.  Jeff Sprague won the ugly/festive sweater/tie contest.  Milanos served an upgraded lunch and dessert.  Total funds raised will be shared at next week’s meeting.
Special Needs Christmas Party – will be held on December 19th at Shawnee United Methodist Church.
Salvation Army Bell Ringing- The date has been changed from December 19th to December 12th.  Drew Fields is still looking for about 8 additional volunteers.
Social Committee – The next Social Evening will be Wednesday December 9, 2015 at the Met on Main Street from 5:30 – 6:30 PM.  The weekly “spotlight” on members and their businesses with begin in January with a 3 -5 minute presentation by members.  Sign-up sheets have been filled into April.  Bios will be printed in the eSpoke two weeks in advance and also be included on the club’s Facebook page.  Mike Powell from Sign Pro will be printing a poster board to advertise the Social Evening that can be displayed at each week’s club meeting.
Abilities Baseball Project – Committee is working on a few formal Foundation applications for funds with area businesses.  Committee has the blueprints to start the actual process of bidding and in-kind donation work to complete the project.  Total fund raising to-date $279,350.00.
 
  • International Service Update                             
Harold Bischoff stated that International Service still needs to raise about $2500 and then we will have the required $10,000 for the Global Water Project.  This international project will include clubs in PA, CA and a club from Canada. Bob Ruehl is putting the initiative together.  The local Honduran Club that will be the sponsor has had a 2/3 turnover in membership this past year.  Bob Ruehl is working with the local club through the process.
 
  • Financial Report                                                                                    
Kevin Bill briefly reviewed the Balance Sheet and indicated a $28,000 balance in checking with $10,000 in savings and $23,000 at Union Bank.  Dues to Rotary International and District 6000 will be due in January 2016.  Statements for Jan, Feb, Mar 2016 will go out in early January.  All invoices from the Christmas Auction will be included in the billing.  Bishop made a motion to approve the Financial Statement as presented.  Crow seconded the motion.  Board approved.

A transfer application was received for

Ehora made a motion to approve the applications and transfer for the new members.  Decker seconded the motion.  Board approved.
 
There were no current resignations or terminations.  Art Brinkman will be awarded Paul Harris Fellowship posthumously on December 14, 2015.  Art’s wife Mary and son will be invited to join the club for the presentation.                                           
 
There being no further business, Crow made a motion to adjourn the meeting.  Frost seconded the motion.  Board approved.
