Rotary promotes peace.

Tim Sielschott provided fellowship, bringing up general good news. The one take-away I thought was most important was that despite all the news coverage of violence around the world - we are at the least violent time in world history. Considering millions of people were fighting each other 60 years ago - we've come a long way...

Our Polio Plus campaign raised $200 with Jon Rockhold auctioning off 6 months of his home made bread !!

Our member profile this week was Jonalee Schmidt - who started cutting hair at age 9 and hails from Chicago.

A reminder to join my rotary.com - and another good reason: there are discount for many items that happen when you show your Rotary membership card.

Our speaker was Do Nguyen, who came to the U.S. in 1974 on a college scholarship program, but had to leave his wife behind. She had to escape to the Philippines by boat, and then travel to America. He has dedicated his Rotary efforts to help countries around the world with peacekeeping efforts - starting in 1999 at a Rotary International convention.

Do gave us a brief history of the RI convention, which began in Edinborough, Scotland in 1921. The 1940 convention was in Havana, Cuba - at the time a popular destination like Las Vegas is today. It was the first convention held in a non-English speaking country.

This year's theme is

"Let Peace Begin with Me..."
