Here are the highlights from the June 20th board meeting.
Call to Order                                                                                               
President Dave Frost called the meeting to order with the following members present:  Anne Decker, Peggy Ehora, Dr. Susan Hubbell, David Runk, Tracie Sanchez, Paul Swartz and Treasurer Kevin Bill.  Incoming members Jed Metzger and Catheryn Sarno were also present.
 
     Secretary’s Report                                                                                       
The club inducted four new members into the club in May and had 47.37% attendance.  There were no resignations.  For the full year, the club had 16 new members with 19 leaving the club. Frost plans to implement exit interviews to learn why members leave the club.  Sanchez made a motion to approve the report and Hubbell seconded the motion.

     Rotary International Conference Recap
Frost and his wife attended the Rotary International Convention in Atlanta.  Frost attended some Sanitation and Water breakout sessions with Bob Ruehl.  The takeaway was the necessity of educating those remote areas about the toilets.   The 2018 Convention will be held in Toronto beginning June 23, 2018.
 
Little Free Library Project Update
Completion and rollout of Little Free Libraries has been delayed as the painting has not been completed by the Art Department at Lima Senior High.  Five of the ten are completed.  Ric Stolly from the City Parks District will coordinate the placement of them in the parks after the July 4th fireworks. 
 
Past Presidents Luncheon Recap            
Fourteen past presidents met for lunch on June 6th for a roundtable to discuss Rotary’s role in the community.   Some of the Past Presidents from out of town had the view that Lima continues to grow while others did not see the growth.  Frost thanked Brown for organizing the event.   
 
     Changing Of The Guard Planning (LRC & LRF)                                  
The Changing of the Guard is scheduled for this upcoming Monday June 26, 2017.  At this time, we have 87 reservations.  The event will be at The City Club – starting at 11.  It is a very full program with Judge Warren as emcee and Dave Cockerell and Paul Swartz providing the toast/roast.  Decker will record the event.  It is a great time to thank Frost for a wonderful year and welcome Sanchez as her year begins.

By-Law Review/Amendments
Sanchez highlighted the updates to the Rotary International Constitution and Bylaws International made though the Council on Legislation.  Decker will be posting them in the eSpoke for club ratification.   Runk recommended the Board adopt the changes and bring them before the club for ratification.  Dr. Hubbell made a motion to approve and Runk seconded it.  Board approved.
 
Golf Outing  July 19, 2017
Chairman Andy Wannemacher has extra sponsors this year but still needs more teams. The event will be promoted on the District 6600 calendar.  Wannemacher will begin sharing information about the event at future meetings to promote it. 
 
Spring Blood Clinic Tallies
Seventy-Seven patients attended the Rotary Spring Blood Clinic.  A record amount of $14, 765 was presented to the Rotary Lima Foundation at the June 12, 2017 Club Meeting. 
 
Rotary Field of Dreams
August 8, 2017 has been set as a tentative ribbon cutting date.  Dr. Jarvis will be there.  Rachel Staley has asked Jim Tomey, former Major League Baseball player who played for the Cleveland Indians during the 1990s, and is a big supporter of the Abilities Fields, to attend the event.  Frost will also reach out to John Germ, RI International President 2016-2017 and invite him as Germ was a major donor for the Abilities Field in Chattanooga TN.  Frost has stated working on a stone to emphasize the major donors of the Rotary Field of Dreams at UNOH.
           
Vice Presidents Report         Paul Swartz
Lima Rotary Showcase Project at VMCCC
Swartz said the goal is the raise $4800 to construct the Display Case.  Swartz is working to get pledges from Past Presidents.  To-date he has received $2400.  The Lima Rotary name will be displayed at the top of the case.  Swartz’s vision is to have it lighted so pedestrians are able to see the display from the sidewalk as the walk by on the street.

     UNOH Rotaract 3K Color Run Recap
Runk stated the Rotaract color run had about 170 participants and raised approximately $2300.  Runk will coordinate the presentation of the checks for opiate addiction to Mike Schoenhofer.  Runk requested that Rotaract have access to the eSpoke so their leadership can be informed of what’s happening in the club.  Decker stated that is possible.  Frost stated Nina, past Rotaract President had been coming to orientation and was the highlight of the meeting.  Runk will ask the new Rotaract President to continue attending and to address Youth Services as one of Rotary’s Five Service Categories.
 
Treasurers Report                Kevin Bill
Kevin Bill stated liabilities have been cleaned up but that won’t be seen until the July’s report.  The Club will have two major expenses in July for dues submitted to Rotary International and to the District.  Bill also stated Assets are correct as listed.   Sanchez indicated that starting in July 2017, Paul Harris points will be shown on member invoices.

  • Dale Lewellen is relocating to Newark, OH and is joining The Newark Rotary Club. 
Hubbell motioned to accept the resignations with regret and Decker seconded. Board Approved
           
     Rule 0f 85
     Jon Rockhold has requested moving to “Rule of 85” status."   The rule was adopted by Rotary International’s 2013 Council on Legislation.  The Rule excuses members’ attendance if the combination of their age and number of years in the club total 85 or more.  Members need to notify the Club Secretary in writing and explain their need.  Approval is given upon Board approval.  Runk made a motion to approve the request and Sanchez seconded the motion.  Board approved. 
                                                                                                                                   
      Applications -  there were no New Member Applications this month. 
 
     Rotary Movies in the Park
Sarno provided a brief update.  Currently there is enough funding for two more movies. Pitch Perfect will be shown Friday, June 23rd at Lima Stadium Park.  If it rains, it will be rescheduled.  Hubbell suggested keeping the movies at one location - Faurot Park.  Sarno stated next year, she will have prefunding or an underwriter before starting the series.
 
     Rotary Amphitheatre
Hubbell asked about the proposed amphitheater and what is involved.  Sanchez stated that Rich Rudolph is heading up the effort and that he has a group of investors who want to do something for Lima.  They will partner with Rotary on it.  It was suggested Rich present his idea/vision to the club at a meeting so the members have an idea of the details.
