Here are the highlights from the April 9th board meeting.
 
Call to Order                                                                                                               Lesley Fry
President Lesley Fry called the meeting to order at 11:45 A.M. with the following board members present:
Lesley Fry, Demi Burden, Russ Decker, Katy Page, Jeff Unterbrink, Elizabeth Brown-Ellis and Joel Mengerink. Also, Secretary Anne Decker and bookkeeper Amy Ricker were present.
Representing the Lima Rotary Foundation were: John Payne, Craig Kupferberg, Abe Ambroza,  Cory Frazer, Berlin Carroll, Jennifer Mason, Troy Elwer and Chris Hardesty. Treasurer Ann Welly and Secretary Sue Fifer were also present.
 
Secretary’s Report                                                                                                     Lesley Fry
Approval of the March 12, 2024 Board Meeting Minutes
Russ Decker made a motion to approve the minutes of the March 12, 2024 board meeting as submitted. Burden seconded the motion. Board approved.
 
Attendance Report for March 2024 
No new members joined the club and no members resigned in March. March attendance was 33.5%. The month ended with 151 active members and 3 honorary members.            
 
President’s Report                                                                                                     Lesley Fry
Annual Meeting
The Lima Rotary Club’s Annual Meeting will be held on April 29, 2024. There will be a resolution on the agenda recommending the elimination of corporate memberships.
4-Way Test Speech Contest
Brown-Ellis made a motion to approve $600 in prize money for the winners of the 4-Way Test Speech Contest: $300 for first place, $200 for second place, $100 for third place. Unterbrink seconded the motion. Board approved.
Rotary Night at the Locos
Rotary Night at the Lima Locos will be June 19. Fry will inform the Locos and arrange for the club to receive 50 tickets for the $100 contribution that was approved at the March board meeting. The tickets will be distributed at club meetings.
Blood Clinic
The Lima Rotary Clubs Spring Blood Clinic will be held May 4. Chair Tracie Sanchez has lined up volunteers for the event. Anne Decker is contacting the media about promotion of the clinic.
Lima Rotary Foundation President’s Report                                                            Jennifer Mason
For the 2023-2024 year, the Lima Rotary Foundation has awarded seven grants to local nonprofit organizations totaling $17,569.27. The Foundation board closed the Buenos Noches and High Octane Drumline accounts this year and their funds were transferred to the general fund. A committee has been formed to review the Foundation’s investments.
 
Joint Board Discussion                                                                                              
Welly shared the Foundation’s financial report. Income for calendar year 2023 is: Amphitheater - $252,259; Endowment - $25,278, General Fund - $44,161; Hulsken - $2,194; Scholarship Fund - $50,856. Ellis made a motion to approve the Foundation Treasurer’s Report. Frazer seconded the motion. Board approved.
 
Ricker shared information from the club’s Profit and Loss Statement and Balance Sheet. The club’s total income through March 31, 2024 is $83,968.32. Total expenses are $87,216.71. Net loss is $3,249.39. Russ Decker moved to approve the Treasurer’s Report. Brown-Ellis seconded the motion. Board approved.
 
Ricker also reported that the net income from the 2023 golf outing is $25,306.
 
Accounting Services Discussion
Carroll made a motion to equally share the salary of bookkeeper Amy Ricker between the club and the foundation. Burden seconded the motion. Board approved.
 
Russ Decker made a motion to approve a pay raise for Amy Ricker from $400/month to $600/month. Page seconded the motion. Board approved.
 
Annual Meeting Preparation
Fry reviewed the agenda for the April 29 annual meeting and discussed the roles of the leadership of both boards. The meeting will begin at 11:45 since the Allen Lima Youth Leadership graduation will be held the same day and there will also be a Paul Harris presentation and the presentation of a check from the club to the foundation.

Holiday Home Tour
Russ Decker announced that three sponsors at $2,500 each have been secured for the Holiday Home Tour on December 1, 2024. One more sponsor is being sought, as are homes to be on the tour.
 
High School Recognition Programs
A committee made up of school superintendents is recommending that instead of the annual High School Basketball Previews, the club hold a recognition program for all high school sports and a recognition program for outstanding high school students.
 
President-Elect Report                                                                                              Demi Burden
President-Elect Demi Burden stated that during her year as president she wants to encourage member engagement in the club and make sure members are fulfilled and that the club is meeting their expectations. She plans to survey members on their programs and activities they would like to see. She would also like to hold a kids day at Camp Robin Rogers with games and entertainment.
 
Foundation President-Elect Berlin Carroll wants to ensure a local focus for the awarding of grants. He also plans to make a quarterly report to the club on foundation activities.

Resignations
Unterbrink made a motion to approve the resignation of Tyson Goings with regret. Russ Decker seconded the motion. Board approved.
Reinstatement
Burden made a motion to reinstate Jon Rockhold as an active member from his current honorary status. Page seconded the motion. Board approved.
 
Motion To Adjourn
President Fry adjourned the meeting at 1:00 P.M.
