Lima Rotary Club
Board of Directors
March 11, 2014
 
The Lima Rotary Club met Tuesday March 11, 2014.  Highlights of the meeting include:                                                                       
The Annual Meeting will be held on Monday April 28, 2014.  The Board reviewed and revised the Draft Agenda.  The final agenda will be presented to the Board at the April 8, 2014 Board Meeting.
 
The Mesa Bike Ride will be June 25, 2014.  The Board approved allocating $2,000 to cover the cost of food and lodging while the riders are here in Lima.  Bischoff made a motion to fund the project in the amount of $2,000.  Baldridge seconded the motion.  Board approved.                       
                                               
The Board discussed renaming the annual awards given for the Four/Five Avenues of Service in memory of or as a legacy to Rotary members who have contributed in an outstanding manner to the organization.   The Board also discussed doing rotating names or including a second Rotary club member’s name with some of the awards. 
 
President Schoenhofer just received two awards from the Rotary Foundation of Rotary International for Harrold W. Goodnight.  The Foundation has presented Harrold with a Benefactor Certificate and Benefactor Wings.    These awards are presented posthumously to Harrold.     Schoenhofer will do a special recognition in a presentation with Harrold’s family if possible.  
 
A Past Presidents Meeting will be held in the spring that will focus on Lima Rotary History --“Coming to know the greats.”  The Past Presidents will meet with the Centennial Committee and video tape portions of the meeting.
 
Upcoming District Meetings
The following meetings are scheduled. 
  • District 6600 Assembly April 12 Loraine
  • District Conference May 16 – 18 Maumee Bay State Park
 
President elect Baldridge provided a report from the Membership Committee. Cindy Wood and Jay Begg are co-chairing the committee.  The following items were discussed:
  • The first of the Free Guest at a meeting was held a couple of weeks ago.  It resulted in four new members.  This format will be used again.
  • Corporate memberships.  The Club originally had 5 corporate memberships.  At this time, the Club may have 10.   The cost of a Corporate Membership is $1,500 a year in dues vs. an individual membership of $500.  The membership committee could solicit bigger businesses in the region. 
  • Encourage 2nd generation. 
  • Host the Young Professionals. 
  • Finder’s fee.
Wood will give a report to the club.
 
The Board reviewed an attendance report.  Members with 25% or less attendance will be contacted.  Board members will send emails or make personal phone calls stating we would love to have you back in. 
 
The Alternative Meeting will be Thursday March 13 2014 at Fresh, 140 N. Main Street at 7:30 AM.
 
Baldridge also presented a report from the Centennial Committee. 
March 13 2015 will be the night of gala.  President of RI Gary CK Huang will be here on Friday night to acknowledge the Lima Club’s 100th anniversary..   
 
Vice President Runk indicated Drew Fields will manage the Bell Ringing Fund Raiser again.

Two resignations were accepted with regret.

Family Promise - Collaboration
Schoenhofer read a proposal from Chuck Wolfe from Family Promise in regard to Homeless Families.  Churches in the area are adopting families.  They are able to stay overnight at the Church.  In the morning they return to Family Promise Day Center.  Wolfe is asking Rotary to adopt as a hands-on service project.  Rotary volunteers would spend the night at the church with the family. There is no money attached.  Runk made a motion to adopt the plan and to include it at the Annual Meeting.  It will be added to the agenda as item 3C for the membership to vote on.  Wolfe will share info with club before the Annual Meeting.
 
District 6600 -  MESA
The District 6600 warehouse in Findlay is being sold and MESA will be asked to leave.  A Rotarian in Fostoria is willing donate a building located in Fostoria at no cost but it will need rehab in the area of $150,000 - $200,000.  The Lima Club will pledge $6,000 to buy into the project.  Matching fund could be available up to $6,000. 
Also, over a four year period, The Lima Club is being asked to contribute $15,000 or $3,750 a year.  Warren made a motion to submit the request to the Foundation Board.  Bischoff seconded the motion.   Board approved.   A grant application will be sent to Bischoff to be presented to the Foundation Board at their April 28,, 2014 Board Meeting. 
 
Rotary by-laws
Judge Warren shared an email from Dick Riggs regarding wording of the newly revised Rotary By-laws under Article 1, Section 2 in regard to the election of officers.  The committee of Judge Warren, Dick Schroeder, Jon Rockhold, and Mike Frueh will relook at the By Laws with the goal of providing clarity.
