Fund Drive for Global Water Project

The Lima Rotary is currently involved in raising funds to initiate a Global Water Project in Central America.  While the Lima Rotary has been very active in developing and completing a school project in El Salvador (the playground project to help reduce the influence of gangs on school children) and helping to place computers in a number of schools and orphanages in El Salvador, we are ready to take on a larger project.

Currently, the Lima Rotary is working with the Club Rotario Villa Real of Tegucigalpa in helping the small community of Villa Peniel,9 km northeast of the Honduran capital, to install a pvc tube system as part of sewer system.  The system will reduce the health issues, such as dengue, skin rashes and intestinal infections due to poor wastewater management.  The citizens of Villa Peniel are currently in the process of installing the tubing which was purchased with the $5,750.00 sent by the Lima Rotary and an additional $5,750.00 sent by District 6600 in matching funds.

Due to this year being our Centennial Year the International Service Committee is working to structure a Global Water Project in Central America with several other Rotary Clubs.  A Global Water Project requires the International Partners to provide a minimum of $30,000.00 for the project which, if selected, will then be given additional Rotary International Foundation funding of at  least $15,000.00 to provide clean water and sanitation facilities in areas of need.  This project has the potential to be the largest International Service project to be undertaken by the Lima Rotary and to have the most impact in improving the lives of the communities involved.

Each Lima Rotarian is asked to contribute $20.00 to this effort.  Corporate entities within and outside Lima Rotary are being solicited for this effort and the Lima Rotary has a goal of raising $7,500.00 for this project.  Bob Fett, International Service Committee Chairman or myself will be glad to answer any questions that you may have on this project.  Thank you for your support of this effort.
