A roomful of 'greats' turned out for the Past Presidents' Luncheon.

“Meet the Greats” Luncheon

A Past Presidents' Luncheon was held on May 21.  It was an opportunity to “Meet the Greats.”   Fourteen past presidents were in attendance.  We learned that when Rotary sponsored the Carson and Barnes Circus, the officers rode the elephants into the circus.  We learned of a variety of fund raisers which were successful in the past.  We learned about the Rotary Boys Choir.  We learned that the Historical Society has a number of historical documents about Rotary, including a written history from 1915 through 1980.  We learned about some of the greats of the past, Jack Goodnight, Harry Polson, George Kocher.  We learned of the hard work to achieve fiscal sustainability of our club and continuity of leadership.

Dick Evans made the supreme effort to be there from a nursing home accompanied by his wife. Frank Frost, a continuous member since 1958, was accompanied by his grandson, VP-elect David Frost. Mike McNamara and Jerry Horner drove quite a distance to be sure they were part of the luncheon as well. There was a wonderful sense of fellowship, camaraderie, and genuine gratitude for the year each had given as President of the Lima Rotary Club. Clearly all of the past presidents still feel a strong connection to the club.

The Luncheon was part of building  the foundation for celebrating our 100 years of Service Above Self.
