 | | 4 ways to get new members engaged quickly | When you help new members feel valued and connected to a club from the beginning, they’re more likely to stay and be part of the club’s growth. Here are four ways you can keep new members engaged:- Introduce newcomers to the rest of the club using the club’s website, newsletter, or email. You can also highlight new members at meetings or service activities (ask them first!) or organize small get-to-know-you sessions. Encourage current members to make them feel welcome.
- Learn about new members. The member interest survey will help you understand their background, interests, and what they’re most excited to do with the club. Be ready to recommend Rotary activities that match their interests.
- Pair new members with mentors who can help them feel comfortable and welcomed. Mentors can teach new members about the club and its activities, answer questions about Rotary, and suggest ways they can get involved. A mentor can also introduce them to members who share their interests.
- Create an inclusive club experience for everyone by considering how different members are able or prefer to engage. Do people use captioning apps, need an accessible website, or want translations? Learn what your members need and make it easy for them to participate.
Incorporating these strategies in your orientation process will help new members feel welcome, supported, and valued. Doing this can lead to long-term growth and success for your club. | |

| | | A new name for the Rotary Citation | | Starting 1 July, the Rotary Citation will be known as the Club Excellence Award. The RI Board approved this change to better convey the award’s purpose as a recognition of club achievement. The requirements for Rotary clubs remain the same. Also beginning 1 July, Rotaractors can set their goals and report their achievements in Rotary Club Central to earn the Club Excellence Award. | |

| A reminder about how new members are counted | | As you and other club leaders prepare to complete your terms, remember that members added on or before 30 June count toward the current Rotary year, 2023-24. Members added with an effective date of 1 July will count toward the new year, 2024-25. If you have questions, write to us at membershipdevelopment@rotary.org. | |

| Districtwide online clubs offer easy entry into Rotary | | The Rotary Club of Activate Victoria in District 9800 (Australia) is a service-focused and districtwide online club that allows members to enjoy the benefits of Rotary in a nonconventional way. Members don’t have to attend every meeting or serve on committees but are encouraged to support the club in service activities. This provides flexibility for members to pursue their interests, connect with other volunteers in meaningful ways, and make a difference in their communities. Members can also attend district leadership events that align with their goals. Learn more about this innovative club model. | |
| | | Tell us about your club experience | | When you create a meaningful club experience, you not only enhance the environment for current members, you also contribute to your club’s long-term success and growth. Rotary research has confirmed that members’ overall satisfaction is most closely related to their club experience. To help raise awareness about this, we want to feature success stories about irresistible clubs. If this describes your club, tell us what makes the experience great. Review the guidelines for blog contributors and send a Word document to blog@rotary.org. | |
