MESA has an exciting opportunity to provide needed medical assistance to a large number of people in need. This opportunity can only be realized with the assistance of your Rotary Club and Rotarians.
MESA constantly receives requests for ultrasound machines. We could send a unit in almost every shipment if they were available. However, we receive one ultrasound unit every two to three years. The areas to which MESA shipments go use ultrasound as a diagnostic tool often in place of x-ray, CT scans and MRIs which are not available in remote locations. Ultrasound units are much more mobile, which is a major plus in these remote locations. MESA has been frustrated for several years by our inability to meet this need.
We have now found a manufacturer that produces ultrasound units at a much lower cost. Additionally, the units are very portable and connect through smartphones. Scans can be viewed through the phone while in the field or sent to a medical facility to be read. The cost of these units with the necessary accessories is approximately $5,000 per unit. MESA relies on donations of used medical equipment to meet the needs of our partners around the world. We have concluded that their need for ultrasound units can only be met through our purchase of new units. We would like to purchase 10 of these units which will be shipped in our normal shipments as requests arrive. We believe that these units will be shipped out within several months.
A very generous Rotarian has pledged a matching grant of $25,000, if MESA can raise $25,000. So, every dollar raised up to $25,000 becomes two dollars with the match. The total of $50,000 would allow the purchase of at least 10 units. MESA needs to move on this goal as soon as possible. Generous contributions from the St. Marys, Grand Lake and the Findlay Noon Clubs have us presently over $6,500 toward our goal of $25,000.
Your Club and Rotarians in conjunction with others can make this happen. These ultrasound units will begin saving lives immediately. No contribution is too small (or too large). Checks can be made payable to MESA and sent to:
