It was announced at the weekly meeting of the Lima Rotary Club that over $5,100.00 was raised as part of the Rotary Miles for International Service event held at the Lima Mall this past Saturday. In addition to raising funds for the Lima Rotary Club’s International Service activities the event was intended to increase public awareness of recent International Service activities.

The major benefactor’s supporting this event was Huntington Insurance and Medical Protective. “Without their generous support this event would not have been possible” noted Harold Bischoff, Chairman of the International Service Committee for Lima Rotary. Other local Sponsors of the event included Cartridge World, Cornerstone Alliance, Rudolph Foods, St. Rita’s Medical Center, Stoops Freightliner, The Heart Institute, The Orthopaedic Institute of Ohio (OIO) and The Lima News. Entities providing in-kind support for the project were Crankers Cycling, Lima YMCA, Sign Solutions and Simon Property Group.
Individuals riding the most miles on stationary bikes brought in by the Lima YMCA for the event and winners of $300.00 gift certificates to Crankers Cycling in the respective categories included Jim Prichard being the winner in the Men’s division, Angela Lawson was the winner in the Women’s division and Derrick Lowe was the winner in the Boy’s division. In the Team competition the YMCA team of Angela Lawson, Erica House and Jason Casey placed first by riding 20 miles. Other teams participating in Team event included Union Bank, the Allen County Board of Developmental Disabilities, Rudolph Foods and The Ohio State University-Lima.
Part of the funds raised will be used toward completion of an International Committee project by the Lima Rotary to be initiated during the first six months of 2011. Each International Service project completed by a Rotary Club is a joint effort with another Rotary Club elsewhere.
