This week's stories
The joys of volunteering for the Rotary Youth Exchange program
As a Rotary Youth Exchange student from Sweden in the 1970s, Olof Frisk chose to study in Colorado because he wanted to ski. But it was meeting the other exchange students in the district that carved his life’s path. Frisk went on to join a Rotary club and serve as president, chair of his district’s Youth Exchange committee, and then chair of the multidistrict committee overseeing the program throughout Sweden. Today, as governor of District 2340, he says volunteering to help Youth Exchange grow is an investment in Rotary’s future. Learn more about how volunteers are at the heart of the Rotary Youth Exchange program.
Finding her people through Rotary Youth Leadership Awards
When Ashlyn Anderson was young, her parents hosted a Rotary Youth Exchange student from Mexico who taught her Spanish. That experience fueled her desire for a short-term Rotary Youth Exchange to Perth, Australia. But attending her district’s Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) cemented her connection with Rotary. Now, she is studying to earn a master’s degree at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, having learned about global grant scholarships during her involvement in RYLA. Learn more about the value of various Rotary youth programs in Anderson’s blog post for Rotary Voices.
