The Lima Rotary Club heard outstanding speeches from the winners of the 4-Way Test Speech Contest.
The first and second place winners in the annual 4-Way Test Speech Contest presented their winning speeches at Rotary on Monday, and both of them chose mental health as the topic.
Second place winner Daniel Koh from Shawnee High School told us, "One single act of kindness can completely change a downcast person's day. If this is the case, why don't we make a duty to perform at least one good turn a day." Daniel told us that if we want to start changing the world, we need to keep a positive mindset in whatever we do and spread that to those around us. He challenged us to do at least one good deed for a stranger each day.

First place winner Leah Shields from Bath High School said, "I tried to think of a way that the everyday person could improve the world around them and just make the world a little bit better. And the solution I thought of is incredibly simple: kindness." Leah told us that the first step is becoming kind to ourselves and that multiplies exponentially. "Just try to do one kind thing today. Kindness benefits others and it spreads quickly.

Third place winner Ariana Custer from Lima Senior High School was unable to attend Monday's meeting. The first place prize was $300, second place was $200 and third place was $100. Congratulations to all our winners!
