Members of the local media share insights on the changing world of advertising and marketing.
Media has changed drastically in recent years from the traditional radio/television/newspaper to a broad digital market offering thousands of choices. Five members of the local media joined us for a roundtable discussion about the best ways to market a business in the digital world. We were joined by Jeff Fitzgerald and Phil Austin from WLIO, Todd Walker from iHeart Media, Victoria Gonzalez from Woof Boom Radio and David Trinko from The Lima News. All of them stated that they still provide traditional forms of advertising, but can provide expertise in digital advertising as well. The attraction to digital advertising is that it lets you target a specific audience by age, sex, interests, locality and much more. They told us that the best way to stand out from the crowd is not to let AI create generic ads for you, but to tell success stories about your business, introduce your staff, talk about personal experiences that let your customers get to know you better, since people prefer to do business with companies that they know and feel comfortable with. They also said that you generally get what you pay for when you use free social media advertising since it only reaches your existing audience and isn't seen by people who aren't already following you. Their advice is to contact any of the local media and use their expertise to help you advertise your business effectively.
