President Russ lays out his plans for the new Rotary year.
“Placing service above self in all that we do to serve our community while having fun at the same time,” is President Russ’ vision for the Lima Rotary Club in the coming year. Speaking at the first meeting of the new year, he reminded members that it takes a large team of Rotarians to make our club the success that it is today. The leadership team of Lima Rotary includes our club officers and board members along with the Lima Rotary Foundation board. Additionally, more than thirty committee chairs help guide our club in all that we do. And we do a lot.

Building on past success such as the Rotary Pavilion in Faurot Park, the Rotary River Walk, the all-abilities baseball field, and the downtown park and amphitheater, our club continues to search for ways to make our community better. This year we plan to construct a “mini-Rotary Pavilion” in Lima Safety City. Not only will this project support the safety education of more than 2,000 children each year, it is also a collaborative project with the high school carpentry class at Apollo Career Center. President Russ reports that our club is seeking a $2,500 grant from District 6600 to help defray costs associated with this project.

It was also announced that our club will host the District 6600 4-Way Speech competition in April and we also look forward to hosting District 6600 Governor, Pam Brumbaugh, at our September 29th meeting.

Also at Monday's meeting, Dick Schroeder made two Paul Harris Fellow presentations. Carol Buettner received her Paul Harris +4 pin and Demi Burden received her +1 pin. Congratulations and thank you for your generosity!
