Allen County celebrates America 250.
On July 4, 2026, our nation will commemorate and celebrate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, and there is plenty happening in Allen County to mark the occasion. Mayor Sharetta Smith told us there are local history hunts which lead participants on an interactive journey through our local history. Details can be found on the Visit Greater Lima website. Heather Rutz outlined plans for Ohio's Homecoming & Picnic, scheduled for June 27 from 3:00-9:00pm at the Greater Lima Region Park & Amphitheater. The free, family-friendly event includes food trucks, kid & family activities, a community chorus and a Lima Symphony Orchestra Patriotic Pops concert. The Lima Rotary Club is helping by passing out water at the event. Kelsey Joseph told us that Allen County's celebration caps on the 4th of July with the annual Star Spangled Spectacular in Faurot Park. The day begins with the Freedom 5k and includes a kickball tournament, veterans car show, youth fishing derby, kids activities, food trucks, a patriotic concert by the Lima Area Concert Band, a drone show and spectacular fireworks. We encourage you celebrate America 250 by taking part in the many activities planned for our community!
Also at Monday's meeting, Kayla Zehery exchanged her red badge for her blue badge. Congratulations!
