The Lima Community Aquatic Park opens this summer.
The City of Lima's new aquatic park will be open soon. Mayor Sharetta Smith told us they haven't set a date for the pool's opening yet, but there will be a ribbon cutting and tours on June 27 beginning at 10:00am. Smith says the design for an aquatic park grew out of a series of community meetings. "We wanted the pool to be more than just summer fun. We didn't want a facility that only operated from May until September and so we started to think outside of the box about how can we provide safe, quality of life and public health for individuals across the region. We heard from our residents and our regional partners that we didn't just want a place to swim, we anted a regional destination. We wanted a place for families to gather and we wanted to be able to draw in visitors." Mercy Health President Ronda Lehman added that the pool will be a valuable addition to the community, improving the quality of life and providing a place for children and adults to learn to swim. The park is located next to Spartan Stadium and will featured a year-round, multi-purpose pool with a retractable roof, an outdoor activity pool with a spray pad and a 20' slide, pool house with locker rooms, party room and concessions. Funding for the $11.6 million project came from the City of Lima, the Lima City Schools and the State of Ohio.

several community meetings drove the design fo the park.
