The Lima Locos' 2026 season is underway.
The Lima Locos is a collegiate summer baseball team that competes in the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League and plays at Simmons Field. General Manager Sean Boley told us that the team is beginning its 38th year and currently has the best record in the league at 12-2. The players come from 16 schools in 13 states and are staying with host families in Allen County for the summer. Sean says that the Lima Locos is a stepping stone for aspiring professional baseball players and they have had a number of players go on to major league careers. The Locos are the proud winners of 8 championships and have been runners up 6 times. They are one of the most successful franchises in the GLSCL, attracting some 500 fans to each of their home games.
Also at Monday's meeting, Michael Ayers and his friend, Jesus Garcia from the Lemoore, California Rotary Club joined us via Zoom from Toyko to talk about the Rotary International Convention in Taipei which they attended. Michael says it was an amazing experience to connect with 38,000 other Rotarians from around the world. He got the chance to meet both outgoing RI President Francesco Arezzo and incoming RI President Yinka Babalola. He is very proud to be a Rotarian and be part of all the good works we are doing in the world.
Mike Swick took the stage to present Lima Rotary Foundation President Troy Elwer with the proceeds of our annual blood clinic in the amount of $4,452.11. Thank you to Lima Memorial Health System for partnering with us on this important community service.
And Anisha Hale received her blue badge just a few weeks after joining the Lima Rotary Club. She has already shown a tremendous interest in the club and has gotten involved in a number of ways. Congratulations!
