Rotary hears from 4-Way Test contest winners.
Every year, the Lima Rotary Club hosts a 4-Way Test essay contest for 7th and 8th grade students in the Allen County Schools and a 4-Way Test essay contest for high school students. At Monday's meeting, the winners presented their essays and speeches about how they use the 4-Way Test to guide them through their lives, and they were all amazingly impressive.
The essay contest winners were:
First place – Lily Emerick from Liberty Arts Magnet who thinks that social media frequently doesn't follow the 4-Way Test
Second place - Kimara Shurelds from West Middle School who says that if we follow the 4-Way Test, cell phones would not be permitted in classrooms
Third place - Rayne Saylor from West Middle School who applied the 4-Way Test to the need for better treatment of the LGBTQ population
The speech contest winners were:
First place - Alexandria Karapondo from Shawnee High School who asserted the need for more courts to handle the overload of cases
Second place - Kyla Fallis from Bath High School asking how the world would be a better place if our leaders followed the 4-Way Test
Third place - Daniel Schiel from Shawnee High School who talked about banned books and brought a backpack full of books that had been banned
First place winners were presented with $300 cash, second place winners received $200 and third place winners received $100. Congratulations to everyone for doing an awesome job!
