Rotary learns more about the people behind Lima's street names.
Grant Sullivan was sitting at a traffic light on Metcalf Street one day when he wondered who Metcalf was. His curiosity led him to research the people behind the streets that we drive every day. In a fascinating presentation, Grant told us about: Benjamin Metcalf - a prominent lawyer, Benjamin Faurot - who struck oil while drilling for water for his paper mill, Thomas Robb - attorney and stage legislator, Samuel Baxter - founded City Bank of Lima, Calvin Brice - U.S. Senator and founder of Nickle Plate railroad, George Jameson - attorney, John Cable (the father) - attorney and John Cable (the son) - attorney and U.S. Representative, and many other familiar names.
Also at Monday's meeting, the Scholarship Committee presented $1,000 scholarships to twelve non-traditional students, bringing the total number of scholarships awarded to 1,307, totaling $1,034,085 since 2001. Thank you for your generosity in donating to our scholarship program!
