Former Lima Rotary President Leslie Rigali is enriching lives in Africa.
May 5th Rotary - David Frost - Sgt.-at-Arms
Roy Baldridge provided Fellowship, and he urged everyone to vote on May 6th - and to vote for the Rotarian of their choice for state rep - and to vote for the Mental Health Services levy.
We watched a brief movie about the Rotary Foundation and the Every Member - Every Year Program. Dick Schroeder further explained a few Rotary International programs that offer additional points towards a Paul Harris Fellowship. More info in the meetings ahead.
Jay Begg talked about membership - encouraging everyone to submit the name of someone they think would be a good member. Certainly they are entitled to all the fun you get by being a Lima Rotarian...
This month is "Older Americans" month - and HCF created a special award to honor local people that are helpful to senior citizens. John Fischbach awarded the 2014 Service to Seniors Award to Jane Reistenberg - known to most of us as "JR". Congratulations Jane !!
Ralph Ellis introduced our speaker - former club president Leslie Rigali. She talked about her days as the first woman club president, her playful sparring with Ralph over the years, and most importantly about her foundation - ARC for Africa.
Originally spawned after going on an African safari - the organization was focused on protecting the animals of Africa - through education and training. Since many populations of uniquely African species are dropping, she understood that since the economy of Africa is heavily linked to tourism - healthy animal numbers are vital to the people of the area. After several successful projects, the foundation spread out to include education and health of the people - specifically those in South Africa. Home health education, school building construction, and aid to families sending their children to school are all part of the ARC mix - and her photos of completed projects and happy children were uplifting to the club membership.
