The Scoop - November 4, 2013

David Grimm was our Sgt-At-Arms today, and he reported 65 members present. Bob Fett provided fellowship, and included a detailed difference between the killer game of football and the softer, fluffier baseball. (With full credit to George Carlin, who couldn’t be at the meeting today.)

 

Dick Schroeder talked about the Rotary Annual Fund - and how easy it is to check that $25 box on your invoice to join in…

 

Carl Berger urged people top sign up to help on 12/7 - our special needs Christmas party. As one who has worked on this party for the past several years - I guarantee you will get more from the experience than you give - it really puts the holiday in perspective.

 

Our speaker was Carl Wintzer, from G.A. Wintzer and Sons. This company shows what you can do with stuff most people don’t want, or want to know about. They pickup grease from local restaurants, and spent livestock from area farms - and convert these waste products into feedstock for pet food, lotions, lipstick, and hundreds of other products. The company began in the 1840’s as a tack supplier - The Charles Wintzer leather company. They began the rendering business in 1920, and have been growing strong ever since. Today, they process over 1 million pounds of material every day, with sales over $40 million annually. A large part of their operation is trucking, and they have a fleet of several hundred trucks to move their products in and out.
