ArtSpace/Lima celebrates 70 years.
ArtSpace/Lima got its start as the Lima Art Association in 1955 and was originally located at the corner of Metcalf and High Streets. After 20 years in that location, the Art Association moved to Memorial Hall. In 1990, the refinery donated the current building on Town Square and the organization's name was changed to ArtSpace/Lima. Executive Director Sally Windle told us that they are out of room "We have used every space for classes, exhibits, after school programs. And a donor stepped up and said, 'I know you are out of room. I will give you the money to purchase the next door building.' We've owned the building for a year and a half and there's a lot going on." Sally told us they are totally renovating the building and applying for a facade improvement grant from the city of Lima that will take the exterior of the building back to its original state. The renovated building will include expanded gallery space and room for a permanent exhibit that will enable the building to become an art museum. It will also have a dedicated space for art therapy. Sally says ArtSpace will celebrate its 70th anniversary with new exhibits, expanded outreach, a giant L MA to be installed on Town Square with room for people to take photo ops with them as the I, and a large Rally in the Square with a special guest artist. ArtSpace has also started a dance challenge to C&C Music Factory's Gonna Make You Sweat and is asking people to submit their dance videos.
