Research is helping students improve outcomes at OSU/Lima.
In an effort to help students achieve their goals and contribute to the community, The Ohio State University Lima campus has begun embedding research projects into their four year biology and zoology degree programs. Dr. Robin Bagley told us that the campus has three natural areas that the students use: Tecumseh Prairie, Tecumseh Woods and the regenerative farm plots. Students have been gathering bugs, sampling their DNA and matching them with online figures to compile local data bases. Future classes will incorporate soil and water quality measures and measure the progress of the regenerative farm. Bagley says students who participate in these research projects "are 3.5 - 5 times more likely to graduate, 9 times more likely to complete a STEM degree, 240% more likely to graduate with a high GPA and 4 times more likely to be accepted to grad school" than students who don't participate in research projects.
