President Jerry Courtney called to order the March 5 meeting of the Lima Rotary Club. Judge Warren led the group in song. Dave Collins handled fellowship. A special report on the Paul Harris program was given by Fred Seelenbinder.
Jim Shine, the publisher of The Lima News, was the featured speaker.
He talked about The Lima News’ print products, its growing ventures on-line and in social media, and in event marketing.
The newspaper reaches 33,000 household and 76,000 readers Monday through Saturday. On Sunday, the number grows to 38,000 households and 98,000 readers. On-line readership continues to grow with the newspaper exceeding 9,000 unique visitors daily.
“Our goal is to deliver information when you want it, where you want it and how you want it,” Shine said.
News delivered through mobile devices such as phones is seeing tremendous growth. Mobile views grew in every quarter during 2011, going from 395,000 during the first quarter to 820,000 in the fourth quarter. The year ended with 2.4 million mobile views.
The Lima News also has significantly grown the number of specialty publications, including glossy magazine products like bridal guides, health and legal directories and visitor guides.
Meanwhile The Lima News continues its involvement in the community, running the Empty Stocking Program during the Christmas season and being one of the major sponsors of Star Spangled Spectacular and the Jefferson Awards among other things.
The newspaper publishes three zoned editions on Mondays through Fridays. The first has a midnight press time and is delivered to customers in the south region. The next edition is delivered in Putnam County and the final metro edition comes off the press around 12:40 a.m.
