The Scoop...May 13, 2013

President-Elect Mike Schoenhofer opened the meeting at 12:12PM.  Billi Dray offered a Mother’s Day invocation and the Pledge of Allegiance followed by Micki Vollmer leading My Country Tis of Thee.  Carol Buettner introduced the day’s Member guests, make-ups and Guests of the Club.

Fellowship was in the form of Happy Dollars.  As the microphone was passed around the room numerous members shared important events in their families’ lives including college graduations, summer internships and not having children in school any longer!  Thanks and appreciation were extended to those making the Group Study Exchange a success, for passing the Lima City Schools levy, a grant received by the West Ohio Food Bank, and the Salvation Army’s 125^th year.  Perhaps the most noteworthy were Chuck Leidy and Alberta Lee celebrating their 80^th birthdays and Don Bruns sharing his wife Linda is well into recovery after a 10 week hospitalization.  Rita Brown reminded members to RSVP for the Changing of the Guard party on June 12^th. 

Dave Collins introduced Neil Winget and Dick Eppstein from the Lima and Toledo BBB’s respectively.  The merger of the two BBB offices a year ago is considered a success with both agencies gaining from the synergy.  Locally, everything remains the same (staff, board, office) with enhanced investigative capabilities, scam apps and faster complaint resolutions.  The BBB, known for investigating business complaints, also investigates charities.  Recognizing young people are not taught ethics at home or school, the BBB believes business needs to fill the void.  To that end, the BBB now offers “In Pursuit of Ethics”, a new 3-hour interactive program with a series of ethical choices.  Neil and Dick concluded with a Q&A session.
