Changing of the Guard
Changing of the Guard was a fun goodbye to President John Ficorilli who did a great job of getting us through a difficult year. We welcome the Lima Rotary Club's new President, Jeff Fitzgerald as we look forward to an outstanding 2021-2022!
The Changing of the Guard included a roast of President John by Cat and Demi, the presentation of the Lima Rotary Club's annual Service Awards, recognition of long-time Rotarians, recognition of incoming and outgoing club board members and foundation board members, and a toast to the new year. A special highlight was Jay Begg's almost 5 year old granddaughter Ellie leading us in the Pledge of Allegiance. She had been practicing it with Jay before his accident and was thrilled to get a chance to recite it for us. Jeff told us his hope for the next year is that it's normal. "Let's have some fun, do some fellowship, fundraising, and we'll all be working along with the District Governor from 6600 and her theme this year, 'Serve to Change Lives.'" Thank you, President John and welcome, President Jeff!

The Service Awards were presented to:
Rex Perry Club Service - Anne Decker
Rudolph Community Service - Beth Seibert
Goodnight International Service - Bob Ruehl
Member Vocational Service - Bob Cupp
Hulsken Youth Service - our school superintendents for working so hard to keep our children safe during the pandemic: Jill Ackerman, Rich Dakin, Keith Horner, Joel Mengerink, James Kanable, Craig Kupferberg, Theresa Schnipke

Outgoing Lima Rotary Club Board members are Peggy Ehora, Theresa Schnipke and Ken Dysert. Incoming board members are Lesley Fry, Elizabeth Brown-Ellis and Joel Mengerink.
Outgoing Lima Rotary Foundation Board members are Lesley Fry, Joe Watson and Beth Seibert. Incoming board members are Abe Ambroza, Jennifer Mason and Corey Frazer.

President John also presented three awards for outstanding service during his year: Demi Burden received his Superstar Award, Derek Stemen received the Never Say No Award and Cat Sarno received the Rock Award.

Golf Outing
Register now for the Rex Perry Memorial Golf Outing on July 21 and support our scholarship fund!
This year marks the 21st anniversary of the annual Rex Perry Memorial Golf Outing. It will be held on Wednesday, July 21st at Hidden Creek Golf Course with a rain date of Wednesday, August 25th. The Golf Committee is working closely with Hidden Creek Golf Course to again ensure our participants' safety against COVID.
Last year we had 27 teams competing and raised over $40,000, all of which went to benefit the Rotary Foundation Scholarship Fund. The Rotary Memorial Scholarship Fund selects persons who live or work in Allen County who are in pursuit of a degree or certification and will attend a school or college in Allen County. The intent of the scholarship is to encourage Allen County employees and residents to work and plan for their futures within our county. As of March 2021, over 1,089 adults wishing to continue their education have received scholarships from the Lima Rotary Club. These scholarships total over $817,250. Degrees or certifications can be achieved at the Apollo Career Center (Adult Education), Bluffton University, Rhodes State College, The Ohio State University at Lima and the University of Northwestern Ohio. All residents who live in and employees who work in Allen County are eligible.
The golf outing is open to the public so please invite your friends to join us. Contact Andy Wannemacher today to register or click here to register online.

Fellowships
Check out these new Rotary Fellowships during this wrap-up of Rotary Fellowships Month.
To wrap up June’s Fellowships month, there are additional groups to highlight and brand new groups to announce!
During the last year, the Internet, LGBT+, and Metalheads Fellowships coordinated service projects and new initiatives:
Rotarians on the Internet Fellowship:
  • Funds were donated to provide internet connection services at My Sister’s Place (MSP). MSP is a safe, welcoming, and inclusive center for women who have experienced violence, trauma, or have suffered mental or physical health challenges.
  • Computers were donated to The Gathering Place, which is a community hub in London that provides opportunities for those with intellectual disabilities.
Rotary LGBT+ Fellowship:
  • Several virtual happy hours were coordinated in Portuguese to connect LGBT+ people and allies within the Rotary family. These happy hours were started to have conversations, educate, and build safe spaces with LGBT+ communities around the world and to engage Rotary and Rotaract Clubs.
  • The Rotary LGBT+ Fellowship promoted a service project leading up to the 2021 Rotary International Virtual Convention. They coordinated with Rotary and Rotaract Clubs to sponsor food drives to support either a local LGBT Food Pantry in their area with either money, food items (non-perishable) or both.  Read more about Rotary’s LGBT+ community in the June 2021 issue of Rotary magazine.
Rotarian Metalhead Fellowship:
  • The Rotarian Metalhead Fellowship was interviewed by a German Rotaract podcast, which you can listen to here.
  • Rotary UK has launched a mental health campaign that features the Metal band Burning Witches. The campaign encourages open communication and speaking about your mental health.
