August Board of Directors Meeting Highlights

·         A total of $6298.50 still due to the club from members not paying bills on time.  Letters were issued to Rotarians with accounts 90 days past due on August 2, 2011.

·         Next Big Rotary Project co-chairs, Bob Fett & Esther Baldridge, are talking to 6 or 7 Rotarians about joining the committee between now and the end of the year.  This will continue when Fett returns from two weeks in Haiti.

·         President Courtney is hoping to get Club Committee Assignments finalized by September and requested names to be sent to him by email.  McPheron inquired about which positions were still open.  Classification, Attendance, Public Relations, Blood Clinic, Golf Outing, Programs being divided up between four people quarterly

·         Mike McKowan reported all Service Projects are in place except Speech Contest Chair and the S.O.S. project put on hold until a new plan to oversee it is in place.

·         Bob Ruehl suggested we send out a press release to promote what we are doing in the community (ex. Dictionary project).  Jim Krumel reported Kinsey is working on a full page ad to show what Rotary is doing in the community.  Krumel also said the newspaper gets bombarded by clubs in the community which such ads.  President Courtney suggested send out email blasts with what we have been doing.  Mike Schoenhofer suggested adding a “What’s on the website today?” email and presentation to Club at a regular meeting to remind people it’s there and a link directing them there.  (ex. Membership directory, photo albums, etc.)

·         Bob Ruehl gave an update on International Service, passing out a Fund Development Profile for the District.  Ruehl reported there are still openings for the Fall Conference in Honduras for any Rotarians interested in getting a plane ticket to go.  The International Service Committee cycling event is scheduled for October 22 at 10 a, hoping to net $7500 this year.  Rotary clubs in the division are being invited to bring teams to compete for a traveling trophy. 

·         President-Elect, Jim Osmon reported more ideas for improvements to the Rotary Pavilion such as a volunteer work day with some work being hired out.  Osmon is interested in getting quotes to estimate the cost to renovate it so that it reflects the Rotary Club well.  This may not happen until 2012-2013.  Osmon will continue to move forward on pursuing this project.  In addition, the city needs some trees donated and landscape strategically planted around the Pavilion to grow more shade long term and would like to hang a newer, more permanent Rotary sign on the pavilion.  The Club membership will hear more about opportunities to get involved as more details are made clear.

·         Curtis Shepard with Union Bank was approved for corporate membership in the spring of 2011 then put on hold as he changed positions to a new bank.  The Club has set a standard of 3 members per corporate membership.  The board approved 4 members from the Union Bank after discussion of wanting to add new members.  Osmon abstained as a Union Bank Corporate member.
