Here are the highlights from the October 8 board meeting.
Call to Order Demi Burden
President Demi Burden called the meeting to order at 11:38 A.M. with the following board members present: Demi Burden, Russ Decker, Jennifer Mason, Jeff Unterbrink, Richard Warren. Also, Treasurer Tracey Regula and Secretary Anne Decker were present.

Approval of the August 9 and September 10, 2024 Board Meeting Minutes
Russ Decker made a motion to approve the minutes of the August 9 and September 10, 2024 board meetings. Regula seconded the motion. Board approved.
Attendance Report for September 2024
Five new members joined the club and no members resigned in September. September attendance was 37.695%. The month ended with 148 active members and 2 honorary members.
President’s Report Demi Burden
Billy Gladwell Fundraiser
Mentalist Billy Gladwell has offered to perform for a fundraiser for the Lima Rotary Club. Burden proposed holding the event as a social meeting after the first of the year with admission being a donation to PolioPlus. Burden will approach John Heaphy and ask if he will donate the Upper Lounge for the event and seed sponsors for Gladwell’s fee. The board agreed to turn the event over to the social committee.

Beer Barrel Fundraiser
Beer Barrel Pizza has offered to hold a fundraiser for the Lima Rotary Club in which the club would encourage its members and supporters to eat at Beer Barrel on a certain day and the club would received a 20% donation of the total amount of the club supporters’ receipts on that day. Burden will see if they will make the offer available after the first of the year.

A social has been scheduled at Vista Taco and Corner Pins on October 16 from 5:00-7:00pm.

World Polio Day
World Polio Day is October 24. Dr. Susan Hubbell will make a presentation about polio at the October 21 meeting and PolioPlus Chair Keith Horner will announce this year’s PolioPlus campaign at the meeting.

District Governor Visit
Rotary District 6600 Governor Tim Ryan will speak to the club on October 28. He will meet with both boards at 11:00am that morning.

Special Needs Christmas Party
The Special Needs Christmas Party has been scheduled for December 7 at Shawnee United Methodist Church. Burden is seeking volunteers to help with the event. A committee meeting will be scheduled in October.

Holiday Extravaganza
The Lima Rotary Clubs Holiday Extravaganza is December 16. Co-chairs Russ Decker and Michael Sarno are looking for items for the live and silent auctions.

Pickleball Tournament
Burden reported that plans continue to be made for the club to host a pickleball tournament in 2025 as a fundraiser. Burden is looking for locations for the tournament. She has found a free app to help organize the event.

Rex Perry Memorial Golf Outing
Unterbrink reported that there are still some outstanding invoices, but the Rex Perry Memorial Golf Outing is expected to raise approximately $31,000 for the club’s scholarship fund.

Holiday Home Tour
Russ Decker and Burden are meeting with the homeowners who are participating the Holiday Home Tour on October 9. Three florists and two bakers have agreed to provide decorations and treats for the event. Tickets will be on sale in November. Unterbrink made a motion to approve the purchase of $150 Visa gift cards for the six participating homeowners to assist with their decorating. Warren seconded the motion. Board approved. Regula made a motion to approve $1,500 for the rental of reindeer for the Decker house. Warren seconded the motion. Board approved. Nutrien has donated $1,500 to the club to sponsor the reindeer.

Treasurer’s Report Tracey Regula
Regula shared information from the club’s Profit and Loss Statement and Balance Sheet. The club’s total income through September 30, 2024 is $33,328.00. Total expenses are $36,458.01. Net loss is $3,130.01.
Russ Decker made a motion to approved the treasurer’s reports from the August 9 and September 10 board meetings. Warren seconded the motion. Board approved.

New member applications were received from Kayla Zehery – Development Director at The Ohio State University Lima Campus and Kenneth Schneider - Athletic Fundraising and Community Relations Manager at Bluffton College. Regula made a motion to approve the applications. Unterbrink seconded the motion. Board approved.
