El Salvador Project

It was announced last week by The Rotary Foundation that a service project between the Lima Rotary Club and the Rotary Club of Maquilishuat—was approved for funding of $15,000.  This announcement starts the final stage of the project where Maquilishuat Club will now work to complete the project.  The project involves helping a school located in a town on the Pacific seacoast of El Salvador in the state of La Libertad.

The Mizata School is located in a dangerous community for youth.  The growth of gangs is causing issues nationwide.  The development of a playground within boundary walls will help secure the students and hopefully aide in limiting involvement in youth gangs.  This project will also address the rehabilitation of the kitchen and restrooms for the school as part of several other projects to provide more attention to the students and provide for the growth of their personal values.

This is the first international service project in several years completed by the Lima Rotary that received District Designated Funds from District 6600 and also received funds from The Rotary Foundation.  This project could not have been possible without the efforts of Bob Ruehl who is a member of the Lima Rotary and also District Rotary Foundation Chair.

This project will be a key focus for a fund raising project to be held on October 26 at the Lima Mall.  More information will be released about that effort in the next few weeks.  Attached please find slides describing this project.
