 | | Helping babies breathe in Sierra Leone | | A failure to breathe at birth kills an estimated 900,000 infants each year and is the leading cause of neonatal mortality in low- and middle-income countries. But many newborns can be saved if health care workers are trained to begin resuscitation immediately. Since 2022, Rotary members have offered a training program called Helping Babies Breathe to more than 650 nurses, midwives, and other health workers in Sierra Leone.
