The Lima Rotary Club cut the ribbon on its mini pavilion in Safety City on Monday.
t was smiles all around Monday as members of the Lima Rotary Club cut the ribbon our “Mini-Rotary Pavilion” in Lima Safety City! The project was a collaborative effort between Lima Rotary Club, Rotary District 6600, Apollo Career Center, Lima Police Department and the Lima Noon Optimist Club.
“This was an exciting example of various organizations supporting one another and working together for a common goal of keeping our children safe,” said club president Russ Decker. The Lima Rotary Foundation purchased the plot in Safety City from the Lima Noon Optimist Club. Rotary District 6600 awarded the Lima Club a grant of $2,500 to pay for the construction materials, Apollo Career Center students designed nad built the pavilion, and Larry Webb, Anne and I volunteered time to provide the finishing touches of landscaping.
“One of the best parts of this project was our working together with the students at Apollo Career Center,” said Decker. “They visited our Rotary pavilion in Faurot Park and the new amphitheater downtown, and then designed and constructed this min-pavilion to be a blend of both of those landmark structures.”
Safety City, operated by the Lima Police Department serves thousands of children each year from across the greater Lima and Allen County region.
