Learn, discover, engage at The Ohio State University at Lima.
The new Dean and Director of The Ohio State University at Lima, Dr. Meggie Young, gave us an update on what is happening on the campus and she says it boils down to three main principles: Learn. Discover. Engage. In terms of learning, "You can complete 13 different bachelor degrees on our campus as well as a myriad of other minors and a few certificates. Some folks are surprised as how accessible we really are and how you can complete those four year degrees." The newest major on campus is a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology which she says is part of a program where they are looking at how degrees align with community needs to build workforce development pipelines. Under the discover heading, a number of students are performing research and creative inquiries into a variety of subjects. In terms of engagement, OSU is partnering with community organizations on such things as water quality and regenerative farming practices, social work, engineering outreach programs, and STEM programs. Dr. Young told us that regional campuses offer a number of advantages over the main campus, including a lower student-to-faculty ratio, faculty members teaching the classes instead of graduate students, and the convenience and cost effectiveness of studying close to home.
Also at Monday's meeting, the Rex Perry Memorial Golf Outing Committee presented a check for $31,392.72 to the Scholarship Committee. These are the proceeds from the 2024 golf outing and will go toward scholarships for non-traditional students in Allen County. Shane Crites completed the requirements for his blue badge and exchanged his red badge for his blue. And Adah Ellerbrock became a Paul Harris Fellow. Congratulations!
