President Mike Schoenhofer called the meeting to order at noon.
Elizabeth Brown delivered the Sargent at Arms report, recalled that 63 members were present last week and welcomed several guests. She reminded members that there will be no meeting on December 30.
Don Witter based his Fellowship on Father David Ross, fined all OSU fans $1 and concluded with a few lively limericks.
Announcements:
Vice President Esther Baldridge stated that we are well on our way to funding 4 ShelterBoxes for Philippines typhoon assistance and thanked those who contributed, particularly Don Bruns and an anonymous donor who each contributed $1,000.
President Mike Schoenhofer thanked outgoing Secretary Billi Dray for her service to the Club. Billi thanked all of the Club members for the opportunity to serve as Secretary. She is leaving the position because of the increasing demands of her work with Young Life and of her growing family. She then welcomed incoming Secretary Rita Brown.
President Schoenhofer then thanked our servers from the Milano Club, Helga, June and Michelle, and presented them with Christmas gifts from the Club.
Bill Timmermeister welcomed 16 scholarship recipients to the stage. Since the Lima Rotary Scholarship Program began, the Club has awarded 726 scholarships for a total of $488,500. The scholarship program is funded by donations from individual club members and income from the Rex Perry Golf Outing.
Program:
Judge Dick Warren introduced the High Octane Drumline as 10 young musicians entertained our members with a high-energy drum performance. High Octane Director Pilate Bradley reported that the group was formed in August 2012 to give children of the Lima community alternative activities. There are currently 14 members in the Drumline representing 8 schools. They practice one hour a day, one day a week at the Bradfield Community Center. Earlier this year, the Rotary Club partnered with the group to provide them with equipment and shirts. Mr. Bradley reported that all of the children involved in the Drumline are now able to read music, and that they have experienced higher test and homework scores across the board.
