Lima Rotary Club gets an update from Sheriff Treglia.
The Allen County Sheriff's Office is using technology to help keep us safe and provide information to the public. Sheriff Matt Treglia told us that the sheriff's office just unveiled a new app that provides his office's contact information, sex offender information, snow levels, inmate information and lookup, media releases and community resources. It also allows you to submit law enforcement tips. You can find it on the App Store and Google Play. The sheriff's office also has new software called Detail Commander that makes it easier for you to hire an off-duty deputy for a special event or to provide additional security for your business. You can find it on the app or on the sheriff's office website. Sheriff Treglia also told us that scams are on the rise. Current scams involve a caller telling you that you missed jury duty and owe a fine. There are also romance scams, Bitcoin scams, bond assistance, and tech support scams operating in this area right now. Treglia says that if someone wants you to put money in a bitcoin machine and send it to them, or send them a gift card, don't do it. Other signs of a scam are urgency and secrecy. If the caller wants you to do something immediately and not tell anyone, it's a scam. An acquaintance of his just lost $3 million in a scam, and there is no way to get the money back. If you receive a call and are unsure if it is a scam, Sheriff Treglia says you can contact his office for help, or you should talk it over with a family member before you do anything.
